bhramos with its 290 km range can only be a tactical cruise missile. i think what india needs apart from nirbhoy, bhramos 2,lrcm,is a cruise missile with a 3000 km range like russian kh55 for strategic purposes

China has longer range cruise missile up to 4000 Km, while india is STILL tinkering with Nirbhay type (1000 Km) missiles. If we have about 200 of these, then china is pretty much covered.

Brahmos 2 will also have a range of 300km & not 3000.

India nearly ready with air-to-land supersonic cruise missile

An air-to-land supersonic missile was almost ready, A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace, an Indo-Russian joint venture, said on Wednesday.

"All the modifications have been completed. We are now in the process of readying with the missile," he told reporters here. This air-to-land supersonic missile "very precisely" attacks the target, he added.

But he said the Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft, in which it is planned to be fitted, needed to be modified and this process is expected to take two years.

Since this BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is "heavier" and "elaborate", the Sukhois, which could carry other weapons, needed to be modified "exclusively" for BrahMos, including in the context of pilot's console and "mission computer should take the (extra) load" and interface issues.

"In the next two years, we are planning to complete these modifications. By 2012 we will be in a position to carry out the flight (with this missile)," Pillai said.

Under the programme, two Sukhoi-30 MKIs would be modified initially. Initial test flights would be conducted in Russia and the "actual" test flights thereafter in India. These missiles would be inducted by the IAF "after 2012"³.

Meanwhile, Pillai also said the BrahMos missile is capable of launching from underwater and "it can go against ship target and land target".

"We have to prove it from under water. We are planning to conduct tests from under water in the near future. Once it's successful, it will get into submarine," he said.

Air to land attack brahmos – a befitting answer

One of the mightiest Air Force of the world is proud of its professionalism, weaponry and most of all of its highly skilled daredevils manning the fighting machines both in the sky and on ground. This wing of the Indian Defence Forces is celebrating its 78th Air Force Day.

The challenges that Indian Air Force faces today are complex in nature. The combination of external threats, the need for dealing with internal security concerns and help required to be rendered in case of natural calamities, pose a variety of problems and challenges. Moreover, a vast area with different terrain and severe climatic conditions call for a highly dedicated, trained and eveready force capable of delivering and thus, winning the trust of common man in the country.

Apart from other operational capability building measures, one of the most significant and dividend paying action on part of Air Force has been, the induction of BRAHMOS weapon system in its inventory. While the work on integration of air launched BRAHMOS missile with Su-30 MKI is in progress, the mobile land attack version has been intended by the Indian Air Force.

The combination of these two versions of BRAHMOS weapon system is bound to prove a force multiplier for the Indian Air Force. With this weapon system, the reach of the Indian Air Force will be enhanced substantially. The mobile land version, on one side will be a potent weapon system to deal with hostile war waging machinery on ground, especially air bases and important installations. On the other hand, the air launched BRAHMOS missile will give the Air Force a much awaited capability of engaging with all type of land /sea targets, much beyond the reach of other available weapon systems. Intelligent exploitation of the combined capabilities of Air Force and the BRAHMOS weapon system will ensure unmatched flexibility with speed, accuracy and destruction power. The Indian Air Force armed with BRAHMOS will be capable of resisting the adversary right from the inception stage of hostilities, by inflicting irreparable damages to the hostile Air Force and its installations on ground and destroying vital operational and logistics bases contributing towards adversary's war waging capability.

BRAHMOS felicitates the IAF on the 78th Air force Day!

India, Russia working out modalities to upgrade BrahMos

India and Russia are working out modalities for increasing speed of the BrahMos missile from super sonic to hypersonic, a top Brahmos Aerospace executive said. This upgrade will take at least five years since it requires modification of scramjet engine, technology, reduction size and weight, Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Indo-Russian joint venture company said.

The budget for the project is yet to be estimated, Pillai said adding it was too early to go into details.

On the air version of BrahMos for IAF, he said it will be ready by 2012 and tested at SAR platform of Sukhoi 30. After the induction of this version, India will be the only country which will have supersonic missiles in all the defence forces, Pillai said.

BrahMos missile have already been inducted into Army and Navy. He said scientists have successfully conducted the steep dive test of BrahMos missile, making the missile a multi-faceted and multi-discipline, since it had all variants of land to land, sea to land, land to sea and sea to sea.

Pillai, here to release a book, also said the Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed a laser sensor, which was capable of testing blood sugar levels without touching a drop of blood.

The device, expected to ready for production in six months, could be placed even on the wrist watch worn by a person, Pillai said.

Brahmos Missile Air Force Variant by 2012, Hypersonic Brahmos in 5 years: Dr. A.S. Pillai

Indian-Russian BRAHMOS the best missile, says Kadakin

CHAUBATTIA, UTTARAKHAND (PTI): Describing India as a "super power in the making", Russia said it was "not worried" over Indian armed forces buying military equipment from the US and pledged its support to see the Asian giant "strong militarily."

Apart from expressing surprise over US sanctioning Pakistan with a USD 2-billion military aid just ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit to India in early November, Russia also promised that it would give the best military equipment it has to New Delhi.

"We understand India is a super power in the making and India can choose which better equipment that suits her. We do not think in terms of fighting for India's (defence purchase) orders...fighting with Americans...no. So if you want those huge cargo planes you can buy them from Americans. Maybe they are better. We are not worried," Russian Federation Ambassador
to India Alexander M Kadakin said on Sunday.

He was interacting with a group of Indian journalists on his visit here to witnesses the Indo-Russian army exercise Indra-2010.

"But you are aware that Russia has a multi-faceted and diverse cooperation in the military field with India. It is not a secret that in cooperation with India we are producing the best supersonic cruise missile in the world - the BRAHMOS."

"It is not a secret that your submarine fleet is equipped with Russian submarines. It is not a secret that you fly our airplanes...not only the old ones, which you are producing, but also the new razor-edge technologies," he said, pointing out that his country had chosen India to co-develop the fifth generation stealth supersonic fighter jets.

Referring to the bilateral agreement for the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) signed between Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and his Indian counterpart A K Antony in Delhi earlier this month, Kadakin said, "Ask the American if they will sell F-35s to India."

He said the FGFA would be "designed by both India and Russia and produced in India also," he said it was not just in fighter aircraft, any other military technology that India wanted, Moscow was cooperating fully.

"When the Minister was here recently about 10 days ago, a very important agreement was reached about the new generation stealth fighter aircraft, which is being designed by both India and Russia and produced here in India also.

"We have diverse military relations with India. So, take any other field...tanks...whatever you take or choose we are cooperating. That is so good, because we have always considered and consider India to be our best friend.

Kadakin said: "We are interested that India should be strong, not only industrially and economically...It is becoming very strong, economically and we are rejoicing together with our Indian friends. But we also want India to be strong militarily."

To a query on the Military Technical Commission meeting that Antony and Serdyukov attended in New Delhi recently, he said they had discussed many proposals and agreements for future bilateral defence relations.

"You may ask Americans are coming, French are coming, and many other countries are coming. But we are not worried. Because we have a very deep-rooted, long established and very functional and very positive cooperation between the militaries of the two countries," he said.

Pointing out to Indra-2010 joint military exercise, he said it was also "an indication of the high degree of confidence and trust we have in each other and trust that we also exercise in combating international terrorism."

"As I said before, we are not only friends; we are allies in combating international terrorism. You know, I will not name any country, you know from where it comes in your vicinity. We also suffer from those people who bring harm to India, they also bring harm to Russia," he added.

Asked about the recent important military deals such as the P-8I maritime patrol plane and C-130J transport aircraft going the US way, the Ambassador asked Indians to look at what Moscow had done.

"Look what we did for India, together with Israel. We produced AWACS planes and we have a product of three countries -- India, Russia and Israel. So the world is changing. Well, I don't know, but America does not have the technology of BRAHMOS. If they start today, it will take them seven years to produce what Russia and India are producing today. I don't think that they have given any vital technologies, you know," he said.

BRAHMOS is a supersonic cruise missile considered the best in the world designed and produced by India and Russia.

India had recently got delivery of an Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS), a beyond horizon airborne radar of Israeli origin on Russian IL-76 platform, of which three have been ordered and two more are to added in the future.

Whereas, "they (Americans) have given USD 2 billion aid to rearm Pakistan just before the visit of their boss (President Obama) to India. That's what I read. What we are giving to India, we are not giving to anyone.

"Even the Sukhois (fighter jets) that China is producing (with license from Russia) is very much different from what Sukhoi (IAF's frontline combat planes) India is producing with license from us," he said.

In 2009, he said Hypersonic Brahmos will be ready in 5 years. In 2010, same 5 years.. In 2011 also same 5 years... :emot15:

Don't know what happened with Nirbhay and shaurya missiles!!! :emot154: We have very poorly managed Defence Organisations.. poorly planned and managed..
