Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT)

T-90MS is not in IA nor of Indian origin like i said in my post ..

===========
===========

RCWS can be operated by the loader as well Commander this is done by slaving both Gunner sight and Loader RCWS with help of COAPs, If commander wanted to use RCWS or the Main gun himself he is free to do so, In such case he will be using RCWS optics through COAPs display available to him, This gives the tank a new capability so does his commander, Unlike anything else in IA ..

============================

RCWS which is stabilized and have Day and night optical and targeting both infantry and soft-skin vehicles so does Airborne targets ..
Arjun Mk2 is yet to be fielded by Army so technically its is not in IA & given the pace of Arjun saga we would see T90MS earlier than Arjun MK2 in IA

This sight is not license build of Israeli COAPS but rather a new EO targeting system developed by IRDE with VEM technologies. It will be used with QR-SAM system and also offered for armoured vehicles later on, right now it is unrelated to Arjun mk-2.

Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT)

It is upgraded sight that is designated for Arjun MBT, I know this as i talked to the DRDO official at Expo, Further in El bit promotional vid has this sight too ..

IRDE has produce this sight from Elbit under tot, VEM technology is simply mass producing under lisence from IRDE ..

If that would ; Lets keep away 'this vs that' in this dedicated Arjun thread ..

I am 100% confident on what I said. SEOS is totally indigenous stuff. Two independent and reliable sources have verified it.
Breakthrough in indigenous E/O sensor tech - SP's MAI
The modular approach of this sight results into a quick customisation for different applications namely fire control solution for armoured fighting vehicles, surveillance from high speed boats and low altitude aerostat, and tracking system for a QR-SAM."
SEOS is currently under testing, Arjun Mk-2 will have COAPS only.

I don`t doubt it, Though there are lot of things manufactured based on foreign product with our own inputs for our own requirement, SEOS is COAPs under Indian terminology ..

Modified for our needs, To use on different platforms ..

CLGM Testfired:

CLGM Testfired: The DRDO on Monday conducted tests of an advanced version of Cannon-launched Laser Guided Missile (CLGM) from the ITR here.Three rounds of the missile were test-fired from a specially built launcher at the launching complex-II of ITR. A defence official said the missile destroyed the targets as expected."The tests were conducted in between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm during low tide period. There will be one more round of test on Tuesday," he said.
DRDO readies for tests of Pinaka versions - The New Indian Express

=================

he Pune-based DRDO lab, Armament Research & Development Establishment [ARDE] has initiated a tendering process to award a contract for supplying the Guidance system used in its Cannon-launched Laser Guided Missile [CLGM], presently under Cannon-Launched-Guided-Missile-CLGM-Indiadevelopment. The Indian company eventually chosen would have to provide 30 units of the system, that it would need to build in conformance with the design drawings, manufacturing process & quality standards provided to it by the concerned DRDO lab.

The tender for limited-scale manufacturing of this critical sub-system suggests that its developers have acquired a fair level of confidence with their design, not foreseeing the need for substantial re-design in the future, & are ready to take things forward. Once the final design is locked, large-scale production would be taken up by one of the designated DPSUs. Additionally, news of the postponement of an impending test wasn't followed up with the news of any test having take place subsequently. Could suggest faults were detected pre-flight, they went back to the drawing boards, & are now ready with corrected designs. The CLGM had tested success earlier in the year.

This assessment, if true either way, bodes well for the country's missile inventory. The 5 km range CLGM can target armoured vehicles, including Tanks, as well as low-flying aircrafts. It can be fired, both, from the barrel of the indigenous Arjun MBT, thus enhancing that platform's versatility, as well as a standalone system, that can be lugged around by soldiers. India's other indigenous Anti-Tank Guided Missile [ATGM], the Nag, on the other hand, is incompatible with the Arjun Tank, & is much too heavy to function as a man portable anti-tank system. News reports indicate intention to develop a lighter version of the Nag, although no trial launches have taken place, so far. Therefore, to plug in this gap in the arsenal, India intends to import the Israeli LAHAT missiles to kit its presently missile-nude Arjun. In addition, it is also contemplating whether to go for the American Javelin or the Israeli Spike missiles to replace its inventory of older man portable ATGMs. A smooth, preferably accelerated, development of the CLGM could lessen the number of the above mentioned missiles that are to be imported. The CLGM would also enjoy an advantage over the LAHAT in terms of its Guidance System used. While the latter employs a solely laser designated targeting system, the Indian solution is to have both direct/indirect laser designation, as well as heat seeking terminal guidance capability.
DRDO's CLGM Development Programme Appears To Be Progressing Well - AA Me, IN

VEM Technologies eventually chosen to provide 30 units of the system, conformance with the design drawings, manufacturing process & quality standards provided to it by the DRDO labs.
==========

They are already ready for trails ..

do we have any Indian option available for the anti tank missile role....

Re: Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT)

This is extremely important for Indian conditions where most engagement happens below 1 Km. Invar has a minimum range of 100 m.

This is the new "Cold start Doctrine" put into practice by import lobby in IA. bring a change in specification at the last possible minute to stall the Arjun mk2 induction and go for another round of t tank upgradations and imports of dubious qualities.

Arjun is a fully network centric tank. One tank can acquire a target and another can fire at it.

And for enemy tanks within 1.5 km, it has one of the world's most deadliest and accurate on the move firing rifled main gun ,

which can fire any longer length single piece APFSDS ammo (that could be developed and introduced in future)without any restriction on the length of rounds to deliver the death blow.

Unlike T tanks that use two piece ammo that can not take in longer length future APFSDS rounds and have to use the missile for the job on tanks with higher armor thickness.

what is the role of the main gun? The powerful 120 mm gun can easy destroy any main battle tank at distances of few kms, thus the main gun can take down any tank at envelope of less than km to few kms, and for much distant target they had the LAHAT .

Till now, LAHAT was acceptable to the army, as a matter of fact IA was pushing MoD for Arjun to be able to fire LAHAT.

Suddenly specs are changed at the last minute !!!

As usual this crucial advantage of Arjun mk2 is being concealed and an effort is being made to portray it as being unable to kill any enemy MBT within 1.5 km with any piece of Ammo. i hope the Modi govt will see through this patriot games being played by import lobbies for eons and take the right decision with Arjun.

ER sakthivel,This is a boon in disguise.Now DRDO developed Cannon launched guided missile will be installed onto Arjun Mk2. This avoids the dependency on Israel missiles and launch systems.

Well u r wrong on this.
Please check news where govt has given nod to manufacture 118 of these machines and by year end we will see them rolling out from factories.
India is not going to buy T90MS as cabinet will not approve it, i am sure now way things seems to happening.

Arjun Mk2 has yet to clear certain parameters ,the missile is yet not ready ,Indian Army is to decide which weapon to use not the government ,they can't shovel any thing in the name of Indigenous patriotism .Do you really think 118 mean any thing compared to 1000 Tanks of foreign origin ,its just a lip service to pacify the public .

Arjun was made as per IA GSQR with four men crew and comparmentalisation of ammo with rifled gun for better accurate on the move fire capable of using any longer APFSDS rounds of the future.

So nobody is shovelling anything down Army's throat. Until the below 1200 meter missile range is perfected Arjun mk2 can enter service with isralei lahat.

the range change specs has nothing to do with the tank gun and it is entirely related to the missile guidance system.

It also depend upon the Round it fires, The good thing about Arjun Gun is it can endure 620Mpa pressure where as latest Russian and Ukranian guns can endure 650Mpa pressure, Under these pressure most modern rounds can be used ..

One thing I can say though, the days of the Indian Army importing any significant quantum of equipment is almost over.

See the Army has to now look at the various sectors along the LAC which are tank country, and there are some.

Arjun MK-2 MBT is the right choice for those areas since the Chinese will field T-99 variants.

In the future a 1800 HP engine developed in collaboration with Ukraine may also be used in say Arjun MK-3.

The 'strategic mobility' argument is weak. And somebody should ask the IA as to what they were doing all these years.

Besides a whole range of bridging equipment is now available that is MLC 70-80 class that is available for domestic production.

So there is a possibility that Ukraine will end up supplying engines / designs to China , Pakistan and India . Oh well I guess we are 20 years too late in exploiting Ukraine for soviet era designs/derivatives the way China did.. Better late than never .( We are also buying blue prints for a semi cryogenic rocket engine from them IIRC)
