NEWS: The tender to procure 114 single-engined jet fighters for the Indian Air force has been withdrawn by the Indian Government.

Good news. Some GE F-414 INS6 engines have already been delivered to ADA. They are now waiting for the Tejas Mk-2 airframe to be ready.

Don't know which news is better ? Cancellation of Single Engine fighter tender OR MK2 development go-ahead.

Funny.. isn't it.

When 2 engine fighters are in race how can we say it Single Engine RFP.

Earlier, it was 2 separate expected RFPs, now it's only one.
Wrong, as Air Chief Dhanoa confirmed last year, IAF wanted the SE MMRCA tender and considered additional 36 Rafales in the long run, but there never was a twin engine tender for IAF. So all the government did (if it's true), is making a U turn on their own tender policy. Cancelling MMRCA => creating SE MMRCA as an alternative => going back to MMRCA

Yeah.

Tejas is India's Single Engine Fighter.

LCA MK1 > LCA MK1A > LCA MK2

Just not a medium one and that's why Yusuf is right, that it doesn't change anything for Tejas, which has it's own requirement in the light segment.

"In terms of FCS, they are very confident. It is a close coupled canard and no different from the active slats and active LEVCON."

Source: a BR poster.
Was there ever a plan to move to the F16XL type cranked arrow wing design for the LCA?

Man at this point we just need the capability to make engines on our own rest of the stuff can be arranged but without the engine the plane will remain grouned.

I just wish that government would run another parallel project to take whatever we have learned from Kaveri into making a more powerful engine.

Engine is not the issue, since we have GE404 and 414 options anyway. But the airframe modifications to fix the aerodynamic problems and the internal changes to fit new avionics in, will require most of the time.
That still doesn't deal with the lack of hardpoints, but at least would make Tejas compliant to a decade old ASR and useful enough for the interceptor role it was meant for.

Ideally we fit the 414 engine, integrate EW including MAWS and add CFTs, to add fuel and free weapon stations. That and the MK1A changes would make it a decent 4.5th gen fighter with potential for exports.

We don't know what is happening behind the scenes. Government never takes unilateral decision. It would always consult IAF before deciding to scrap SEF. So instead of speculating andstrengthening anti Modi government forces, let's wait for more information and clarification from IAF or Government for the rationale behind the decision.

I can speculate that maybe by this delaying tactics, government can force IAF to order more LCA in currentconfiguration or MK1A and simultaneously speed up MK2 and procure more orders for MK2. By thedelay, AMCA may also get ready. We already have FGFA and PAKFA partnership with Russia. Who knows if there is any internal information of Russia coming forwardwith more TOT sharing. If they don'tshare, the money instead goes to west.

AMCA will be India's Medium Multi Role Stealth 5th Generation Fighter.

Till that time Rafael will be ordered in small quantities + SU57 based fighters.

Exactly and since they only come around 2035, they don't play a role for the MMRCA requirement either. So you have successfully established why we need MMRCAs, because Tejas is not medium and AMCA is not available anytime soon.:)
