I understand Modi sometimes needs to do taqiya. Should avoid too much Gandhi-giri.
Instead change tradition to War Memorial.

Itanagar would be a fine place to host.Personally though since China is not attending, I'd have liked to host it in Itanagar
Westerners and others are not used to such altitudes. They will collapse and we will have to foot their medical bills for no reason. The only ones who can handle a bit of that would be Ecuadorians who live in one of the highest places on earth (other than Himalayas)Ladakh has airport connectivity.
Would've been a fine location but for the altitude sickness-inducing height of the region.
Not except UK. UK is exceptionally anti India.Views of India Lean Positive Across 23 Countries
Across 12 countries, a median of 40% of adults say they have no confidence in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do the right thing regarding world affairs, while a median of 37% say they have at least some confidence. About eight-in-ten Indians (79%) have a favorable view of Modi, including...www.pewresearch.org
Views of many G20 countries towards India. Global decline, Europe mostly unfavorable except UK and a couple of others. To be expected given India's assertive foreign policy. No longer the good boys who will toe the line.
Not really. The point is to balance the EU by bringing AU. Given how Africa is reacting to the French struggle to retain its quasi-colonies there, it is understandable that the West is not comfortable with giving more power to the other half of G20.Modi wanted to include "African Union" in the G20. Seems not only Western nations, but most other countries are not comfortable.
Thou, they didn't speak against it. Is India taking an unnecessary burden on its shoulders?
CAMP 1 | CAMP 2 |
USA | China |
UK | India |
France | Russia |
Australia | Mexico |
Germany | South Africa |
Italy | Indonesia |
Canada | Saudi Arabia |
Japan | Turkey |
South Korea | Argentina |
European Union | Brazil |
Spain (permanent invitee) | --- (Vacant) |
Reason why EU is in G20 is because Eurozone is a single market economy with a common currency which AU does not have. Which is why technically EU is one of the top 20 economies on earth while AU is not and hence EU is eligible to be a G20 member but AU is not.Not really. The point is to balance the EU by bringing AU. Given how Africa is reacting to the French struggle to retain its quasi-colonies there, it is understandable that the West is not comfortable with giving more power to the other half of G20.
G20 has three camps:
CAMP 1 CAMP 2 USA China UK India France Russia Australia Mexico Germany South Africa Italy Indonesia Canada Saudi Arabia Japan Turkey South Korea Argentina European Union Brazil Spain (permanent invitee) --- (Vacant)
EU is more or less like Spain (don't know what that 'permanent invitee' means), but any decisions that the G20 has to get the nod of both sides. The 2023 Finance Ministers' meeting and Foreign Ministers' meeting this year saw the CAMP 1 ministers walk out when the Russian delegation spoke, while the entire CAMP 2 attended the sessions with rapt attention.
African Union (AU) kind of evens out the representation of developed and developing countries.
PM Modi ji is simply getting AU the recognition it needs and also using that to propel us as the voice of the developing world.
Nothing hell is on going in Delhi.Three days from September 8 is going to be hell for Delhiites in terms of traffic and moving around the city. Given that we are hosting G20 for the first time, it is going to be a living nightmare for the commoners.
I can't understand why Dr. Jaishankar chose Delhi. PM Modi was pretty open to hosting global events in different parts of the country. It would have made sense to host somewhere like Manali or Visakhapatnam Thiruvananthapuram or Goa.
Personally though since China is not attending, I'd have liked to host it in Itanagar
Well many don't realise Delhi isn't under a lockdown, only central Delhi is.Nothing hell is on going in Delhi.
Everyone has been informed atleast 2 weeks back. Schools, shops, malls will be closed. This is not something limited to India.
In NYC, during UN summits, a lot of streets are closed and many areas becomes No-Go zones.
Correct! We'll many don't realise Delhi isn't under a lockdown, only central Delhi is.
That is the made-up explanation that the Europeans made to induct themselves in. That's a Western specialty; create a technicality and then insert themselves in.The reason why the EU is in G20 is because the Eurozone is a single market economy with a common currency which AU does not have. This is why technically EU is one of the top 20 economies on earth while AU is not and hence EU is eligible to be a G20 member but the AU is not.
Not according to the survey quoted. Not except UK. UK is exceptionally anti India.
Given that sample size doesn't cover a huge chunk of population, we can question that. Not according to the survey quoted.
Sure but PEW is taken seriously and unlike India, UK isn't as diverse. They seem to get everything else right in Europe and the US and are used as a gold standard. Even Salvatore Babones used PEW data on Muslims in India to debunk the narrative that Muslims are persecuted here.Given that sample size doesn't cover a huge chunk of population, we can question that.
PEW is probably the most neutral western source to evaluate things like this across the world. It does not get more neutral than them in the West. I agree that the sample size is small and does not reflect the complete reality, but that is something we will have to consider for now.Given that the sample size doesn't cover a huge chunk of the population, we can question that.
I love the fact that PM Modi is sparing no opportunity to showcase our ancient civilization. Buddhist murals, naming the ShivShakti point on the moon, showcasing our ancient temples and monasteries, engaging with Dharmic spiritual leaders in the public, even so much as to show the spiritual richness and origins of Kashmir on the Republic Day float this year. The mesmerizing 28-foot-tall world's tallest Nataraja statue stands in front of the grand Bharat Mandapam, the venue of #G20Summit, all decked up for the biggest event of the decade on Indian soil.
