New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

I have not seen or disassembled either of the OFB made AKM clones, so I don't envision it to be anything other than mere speculation. I can comment on some Eastern European AKM clones that I have seen internally, but I cannot comment on the OFB made ones. That is why I am saying I need technical...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

So we have theories: Theory 1: The rifle is the same but the name "Ghatak" is new. Theory 2: They made modifications to the rifle, and the new modified rifle is called "Ghatak." Ok, here are some of my thoughts: P-Rail and pistol grip are not modifications in my opinion. These are merely...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

It is the same rifle I had in my hands at an OFB stand more than a decade ago. I don't care about the P-rails and pistol grip. I am saying this again because stating something once does not seem to work. One down. 14,999 more repetitions to go. :)

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

So, you don't have any technical details as to what changed? Ok, I will look around and post details if I can find out. For me, a new rifle means modifications in the mechanical parts, such as bolt, rifling, gas regulator, piston or direct impingement. Superficial modifications will leave OFB...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

Yes, to what? What are you saying yes to? Read what I wrote in my previous posts. Repeat that another fifteen hundred times. I have already responded. I said that because it looked like it had a gas regulator, and this was a follow on from what I read in Kunal's post. Read his post again...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

You saw the picture Kunal is holding but did you read his post? He mentioned gas regulator. The picture shows a rifle which looks like it has a gas regulator, but on close inspection it is not a gas regulator. I thought it was Ghatak because I thought it has a gas regulator. Back to the point...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

The model I saw did not have P-rails but had black furniture and waffle magazine. I would like to see a picture with the gas regulator. The one they are promoting as Ghatak is most likely to avoid being repeat sued. I wonder what major modifications they would have made internally to be...

You are right. What looks like a gas regulator is probably something else. That is the AK7. P-rails and all are just accessories. You can add P-rails to any Kalashnikov.

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

You believe what you want. There are two pictures. One a direct clone of AKM, and another with the gas regulator. You are looking at some posters at an OFB stand, correct? I have seen posters at OFB stands too. I have had the rifle in my hands, along with INSAS and Garl-Gustav. If OFB...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

You don't know a single person personally who has actually worked on any OFB product. :) The guy who prepared that literature did not work on the product. I can tell you that right now.

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

 Ok, one final time. They are calling this rifle below the Ghatak. Therein lies the error. Ghatak has a gas regulator. Please read the previous posts again. To quote Kunal, "The final avatar of original AK7 is Ghatak now."

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

You are correct Kunal. The new modifications include the gas regulator and also they have a new muzzle brake. It is also true that India was sued by Kalashnikov. I was referring to the rifle below. This is the same rifle I had in my hand years ago, and the name "Ghatak" was not used then...

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

The AK7 is an AKM clone. It was chambered in 7.62. It existed then, and it exists now. The only thing new is the word "Ghatak."

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

Absolutely false. If it is official OFB literature, then it is a factual error they have made. I have had an OFB manufactured AKM clone in my hands more than 10 years ago (probably 15). No "Ghatak" existed then.

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

Another ill-informed ill-researched magazine article. If this is "Ghatak," then OFB site would say so. Link: http://ofb.gov.in/products/data/weapons/wsc/21.htm This rifle is a clone of the AKM, and has been in production for more than a decade. It is called "Assault Rifle 7.62 mm."

There are plenty of threads on assault rifles. 300 m is a normal range.

New Ishapore`s Assult Rifle Goes Into Production

I would call it AKM or AKM clone. AKM will go to COIN, Home Minsitry and Defence Ministry forces will probably get INSAS, and MCIWS will probably be used for special forces. This is partly speculation.

I can try and answer the second question. Interchangeable barrels for different types of ammo can be handled by our indigenously developed MCIWS: http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/indian-army/58105-drdo-multical-rifle-unveiled.html
