Those waters have been under Chinese control for centuries, before EEZ's were even thought of anywhere in the world. Why do you think even Taiwan has claims in those waters? Because they know the SCS's history, yet I don't hear anyone calling the hegemonic monsters.. The Indian Ocean is not Indian territory, and even if it were, Chinese vessels do not survey for oil in them illegally as the Indians do in our waters, we ensure safe transit for goods destined for China.

Stick to bettering your starving poor's life, and leave China be.
An Indian empire controlled the Bay of Bengal from the 10th to the 12th centuries so can we claim the Bay of Bengal? And yeah I left out Mallacca straits.

The Chinese need to understand that if ancient boundaries are applied to modern claims then Mongolia can claim all of China and half the world. The Greeks can claim the middle East and the Italians can claim all of Europe.

This is the logic behind your claims? No wonder the ASEAN is wary of you.

What's the big deal, exactly? All this fear-mongering is starting to get annoying.

If you think Indian ocean belongs to India, then claim it just like we have been claiming South China Sea, until then it remains to be international water.

People who are bashing China on this thread must forget seychelles INVITED China to set up a naval base there for the anti-piracy mission or you just intentionally neglect that, otherwise why blame China? China has done nothing wrong here, we didn't even accept that invitation.

If India is able to patrol and police Indian ocean, keeping it safe and free from pirates, I believe China won't bother sending naval ships there, much less building a naval base.

Indian Ocean does not belong to India.

It is just that there are many friendly countries around its periphery!

China's first military base abroad in Indian Ocean
December 12, 2011 12:18 IST

In a move that may cause unease in India [ Images ], China on Monday announced that it will set up its first military base abroad in the Indian Ocean island of Seychelles to "seek supplies and recuperate" facilities for its Navy.

The naval fleet may seek supplies or recuperate at appropriate harbours in Seychelles or other countries as needed during escort missions, Chinese Defence Ministry announced in Beijing [ Images ] on Monday.

China has already cemented its foothold in the Indian Ocean by signing contract with the UN backed International Seabed Authority to gain rights to explore polymetallic sulphide ore deposit in Indian Ocean over the next 15 years.

The contract awarded this year to a Chinese association exclusive rights to explore a 10,000-square-km of international seabed in the southwest Indian Ocean.

The base in Seychelles is regarded significant by analysts as China is about to launch its first aircraft carrier. It is currently undergoing final trials.

Playing down its significance, Chinese Defence Ministry statement on Monday said it is international practice for naval fleets to re-supply at the closest port of a nearby state during long-distance missions.

Apparently commenting on a recent report that China will establish a military base in Seychelles, it said Chinese naval fleets have re-supply facilities at harbours in Djibouti, Oman and Yemen since China sent its first convoy to the Gulf of Aden in 2008.

The decision to establish its first naval base abroad was taken during Chinese Defence Minister Gen Liang Guanglie's goodwill visit to Seychelles earlier this month.

During the visit, Seychelles Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam said his country has invited China to set up a military base on the archipelago to beef up the fight against piracy.

"We have invited the Chinese government to set up a military presence on Mahe to fight the pirate attacks that the Seychelles face on a regular basis," Adam was quoted as saying in the media reports.

"For the time being China is studying this possibility because she has economic interests in the region and Beijing is also involved in the fight against piracy," he said.

During Liang's visit, the two sides exchanged views on their countries' and armies' cooperation, as well as on the global and regional situation, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Seychelles appreciates China's efforts to maintain safe navigation on the Indian Ocean, as well as the support it has granted to Seychelles, the ministry said.

Seychelles also invited China's navy to re-supply and recuperate in the country during escort missions, the defence ministry statement said.

No you can't, Only the USA can do that, and we have already pay enough money for it to protect our ships.
HaHaHa

We can always stop any shipment or Chinese warships if needed (In any conflict/war)

Check the map closely, We have huge A&N island which is our natural aircraft carrier with almost 450 islands. Our Fighter Jets like MKI with Brahmos can destroy any of your ships in few minutes. We have around 50 warships on our east side with many more warships/Submarine/Missiles/aircraft will be added soon. Andamaan & Nicobar Island is around 5,000-6,000 Km away from Mainland China which makes nightmare for China in case of any hostile situation.

Even we can stop near Sri Lanka (10,000 Km away from China) as we have 4 bases there including Kochi and Chennai. :pound:

Not to forget Madagascar too.

90% Chinese shipment crosses from Indian Ocean and China is completed surrounded with Indian navy in IOR.

Yes, We are not the most powerful. Of Course USN is most powerful navy.

But that doesn't make any difference. Indian Navy is stronger than Chinese navy. Even U.S. is asking India to Join with Australia, Asean countries. U.S. will be more than happy if we do.

Not to forget, Singapore, Australia, Japan, S.K., Taiwan, Vietnam too. We have good relation with all of them.

Malaysia is Buying Brahmos soon and Indonesia F-18. 8)

Whatever is needed to stop Chinese ships in IOR, We already have and going forward by 2022, Our Navy would be 2nd strongest.

Indian Navy covers almost 10,000 KM area in IOR. It would be impossible for any country to breach except U.S. which is more than desperate to become our strategic partner.

You have so many friends will fight for you? Then spaceship of our Alien ally will destroy all of your fleet.
As long as the USA is not our enemy, our oil route is safe.

When I said We need any other country ? We don't need any other country. :nono:

It's good for us that China has many enemies. It divides China defence capability in many parts. :thumb:

We are capable enough to face China alone. At least, Our Navy will be nightmare for China in IOR. Maximum you can do is send many submarines but then we will operating lots of P8I Submarine hunter too. 8)

We don't need to do that, the USA will keep the free transport of the Ocean, protect the merchant ship - especially when it has the USA flag.
We have payed them enough to keep our ship and oil safe.
