Just look at the location of the attack, at inter-state border. Why does the CRPF repeatedly fall into such trap?

This is what happens when the government pushes Policemen trained for Crowd Control into the den of Naxals. These personnel have an instinct of running around like confused rabbits for cover instead of holding their ground, it was quite evident during the BSF-BDR skirmish on Indo-Bangladesh border. There was no way they were going to come out alive because Naxals were firing from roof and tree tops and instead of engaging the naxals these men must have been busy searching for a safe spot.

There is absolutely no way to get out of such situation without suffering casualties. These men went down without giving a fight, says a lot about the leadership and motivation.

WTF is this:
Maoists flee after releasing 100 school children they held hostage, say reports | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

According to emerging reports, Maoists who had taken hundred of school children hostage in a village in Jharkhand have freed the captives and fled away. Children were taken hostage in Kudumkela village of Gumla district in Jharkhand.

Senior journalist Rahul Pandita quoted police on Twitter saying, "A senior police officer has confirmed Jharkhand hostage situation. The village is in Simdega district." Last year, on December 1, using human shields, Maoists had unleashed a major attack killing 14 CRPF personnel, including two officers, and injuring 12 others in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. However, so far there is no clarity on why the children were taken hostage.

Recently, rare video footage has been recovered by police. It shows Maoists conducting a 'commando-style' training to gun down helicopters used to ferry security personnel and VIPs, in Chhattisgarh's worst insurgency-hit Bastar region.

The video of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) at a training camp apparently in forests of Sukma - south Bastar adjoining Andhra Pradesh and Odisha - shows a group of 15-20 guerrilla cadres practising to bring down a chopper by using its 'dummy' with LMGs (light machine guns) and small weapons.

According to information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in the past 10 years, the Communist Party of India (Maoists) has organised as many as 489 training camps for more than 40,000 cadres who have been taught about the use of sophisticated weapons and guerrilla warfare.

The recovery was made during a joint operation by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the State Police on the basis of a credible intelligence input generated by a CRPF officer. The dump was found inside a deep cave located in a dense forest, a press release from the CRPF said. According to it, the recoveries included a number of can bombs weighing 40, 25, 10 and 2 kgs, 25 petrol bombs, 23 hand grenades, 90 kg of explosives, 9 kg ammonium nitrade, cordex wire, detonators, radio sets, suitcase IED weighing 20 kg, three 12 bore guns and other miscellaneous articles used for making indigenous explosive devices. In an earlier operation on February 2 also, the security forces had unearthed another dump in the same area. Chakarbandha forest, spread over Gaya and Aurangabad districts of Bihar touching the fringes of neighbouring Jharkhand, was a stronghold of CPI (Maoist) till about two years ago. Since establishment of CRPF camps in the forest in 2013, the Maoists activities have been effectively checked though their presence continues, the release said. These recoveries are attributed to the CPI (Maoists) of the Madhya Zone of Bihar Jharkhand Special Area Committee, the release added.

Jharkhand Maoist leader arrested in Punjab

Maoist leader Deen Bandhu was arrested on Sunday from this Punjab town in a joint operation by the Punjab and the Jharkhand Police, an official said.

The arrest of Bandhu, who had been hiding here under the alias of Suraj Munda since December last year, came on intelligence inputs, the official said.

A major activist of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, Bandhu, 28, was wanted in scores of murders, and kidnappings in Jharkhand, said a senior police official.

He joined the Maoist movement in 2010 and is facing charges of murdering four people in his native village.

Bandhu is believed to be aide of outfit’s dreaded top gun Kundan Pahan, who was shot dead in a forest in Khunti district in Jharkhand in July last year. A local court handed him to Jharkhand Police on a five-day police remand. – IANS

Jharkhand: After a major gun-battle, police killed 12 Naxals in Palamu district

At least 12 Naxals were killed by the security forces in Palamu district following a major gun-battle in Jharkhand late on Monday night. The operation was collectively initiated by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police at Bakoriyaof Satbarba area.

Tagging the operation as ‘successful’, the police claimed of acting after receiving information about the movement in the area.

“We received the information of some Naxal movement in the area and the incident happened late in the night. They started firing at us as we stopped our car for checking. In retaliation, our officers shot back at them which killed 12 Naxals. Complete report of the event shall be submitted to the Jharkhand government,” informed IG, Jharkhand Police A Natrajan.

Sharing more details, Additional Director General of Police (Operation) SN Pradhan explained that the Naxals were moving in two vehicles and after one vehicle sped away, their people from the other vehicle got down and opened fire on the police. Eight weapons too have been seized from the spot.

This is the first big episode in Jharkhand after Maoists had trapped a police vehicle in Dumka on April 20 last year as the returning post completion of the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections. The incident had killed eight persons, including six policemen then.
