More than 40 Philippine police commandos were killed in an 11-hour firefight with Muslim rebels which erupted while they were chasing one of the region's most wanted militants, police said Monday.

The clash -- which broke out despite a peace pact with the main rebel group -- was "the single largest loss of life in recent memory by our security forces", said interior minister Manuel Roxas.

A total of 43 commandos were killed Sunday in the remote town of Mamasapano, a known rebel stronghold, on Mindanao island in the south, the national police chief Leonardo Espina told a news conference.

Regional police spokeswoman Judith Ambong told AFP separately the bodies of 49 policemen were recovered.

Eleven police were injured but there was no information on any Muslim rebel casualties.

Almost 400 police commandos swooped before dawn on the hideout of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a splinter group which rejects the peace pact, in search of Zulkifli bin Hir.

Yup they do, and guess what, it also has a Pakistani-Saudi connection
Moro Islamic Liberation Front - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Moro Islamic Liberation front has connections with the early form of LeT, Specifically Mahmoud Mohammad Bahaziq, founder/financier of JuD, also fought in the Philippines, along side Hashim Salamat (apart from other countries).

    Heard about it here first:

goto around 16 minutes, to 25 minutes...It's amazing how there is one common center for all of this from Europe to Philippines.

Its called critical thinking guys. If 40 police "commandos" where killed in this attack on a remote village, how many civilians died? Why are the casualties of the rebels unreported?

Because the number of civilian and rebel casualties are most probably disproportionately higher than the police losses.

The fact that they are only reporting one side of this police raid speaks volumes.

Not every media is state controlled Chinese media, to read out a well prepared and approved ( from CCP) text. Others report as and when the report comes.

Manila and the Catholic majority need to respect the aspiration of the muslim minority and make peace with them !

It involves present-day Malaysia?? So the international mediation is also entailed.

@amoy I am not sure if you are sarcastic or trolling or serious.

How about respecting aspirations of Uighurs? What's good for the goose is good for the gander...

There's this mental illness, but let's just tolerate it, because a billion plus people suffer from it.
