PLA Navy stages sea battle drill in West Pacific

BEIJING, October 19 (ChinaMil) -- The Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) kicked off on Friday a confrontational exercise involving real troops code-named "Maneuver V" in the high sea of the West Pacific Ocean. The exercise is carried out according to the annual military training program of the PLAN.

The drilling subjects in "Maneuver V" will be set in close accordance with the requirements of real sea battles. Based on PLAN's existing operational command systems and weapons, the exercise will be conducted in the form of freely confrontations between warships without pre-fixed scenarios, so as to have an overall review of the capacities of the existing operational command systems and the combat effectiveness of weapons in high sea battles.

The exercise is expected to help improve the PLAN's capability of wining in mobile operations in high seas.

The "Maneuver V" exercise will watch its final curtain in early November.

During the exercise, the participating warships from the PLAN's North China Sea Fleet, the East China Sea Fleet and the South China Sea Fleet will sail to the designated sea areas of West Pacific to conduct continuous confrontational drillings.

Parts of the submarine, aviation and shore-based missile forces of the PLAN will also be involved in the exercise.
