Sir, I'm unable to find the link again I believe the Pakistani propaganda machinery has removed it from the internet. But during the Zarb e Azb operation, several Pakistani soldiers mutinied because the Mullahs told them they would not get a burial because they were fighting the Ummah.Islam before nationalism? Ok, let's take a hypothetical situation:
Let's say that the Islamic Army of Pak is fighting a war with India. Suddenly there is a threat to Islam in Saudi Arabia by mercenaries taking over the holy mosques in Mecca and Medina. Now would Pakistan's Islamic army stop fighting for Pakistan and be diverted from the frontlines to defend Islam in Saudi Arabia instead?
I don't think they would. So all this sentiment about defending the Muslim Ummah and Islam instead of one's nation is pure unadulterated hogwash. It will always be nationalism first always and every time. The Muslims need to stop the charade of Islam over nationalism. When the chips are down it will always be the defence of the nation first and not Islam, even if it's the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Also, there is what is prescribed by the religion and what is actually practiced by a person. If people followed what is prescribed in Islam to a T then we would be in big trouble. The fact of the matter is that most Muslims are not good Muslims, the same is true for adherents of other religions. Punjabis specially are not exactly known for being that rigid about religion in history.
Lastly, there is the question of soldier vs an average Muslim. Soldiers undergo an extreme indoctrination (with due respect to you) during their training and are brainwashed to follow orders. Imagine if a common soldier wanted to rebel during Zarb e Azb then what about the nextdoor Muslim?
