India cannot arrogate it's way into a permanent seat in the UNSC. I even doubt if all it's neighbors will support its bid... So in a way this ranting against the current UNSC is understandable (a sound of desperation from someone who believes it has nothing to lose).

The Indian establishment has to get down from their too high of a pedestal. It must be lonely being on top...
Indians are docile by nature and not arrogant. If you think india is showing arrogance then I'd say it's a welcome change.

India's neighbors will obviously oppose India's bid. I don't expect Pakistan to support nor china or BD nor SL. There is historical ground for that. It cannot be changed.

India will be called upon to play a greater role sooner or later as its economy and military expands.

when india is powerful enough (say 10 years into the future) then it will be INVITED to join the P5.

that's the only way it can work with the current un charter.

Will China gratuitiously endorse India to the UNSC without concessions from India on their historical territorial issues, tussle over the Himalayan backyard (Tibet, etc.)...?

china already offered to endorse india, if india was willing to leave the G4 and campaign for a seat on her own.

india rejected this offer, but the fact that the offer was made in first place means that it was a serious one.

Obviously the offer is tied to Indian concessions on issues that have bedeviled the Sino-Indo relations (no freebies in international relations). You think India will capitulate on these issues for a permanent UNSC seat?

No need to rant against UNSC. Let us be the lone wolf. A powerful nation needs not to be included in any specific group or organisation to project its prowess.

There is a reason why Indian National Animal is a tiger. As they say "pigs come in groups.. tigers don't" :namaste:

Oh well, Tigers are an endangered species (and no sign of respite in their annihilation despite international ban). Pigs on the other hand are mass produced.

Then, what does india offer in turn for such a great favor? After all, there is no free lunch in this world!

taking a much "harder" stand against china might buy you some respect from china. but it will most probably reduce your chances of getting a permanent seat.
I agree with Mr. Puri, current UNSC has been useless for India and solves no one's purpose. India is already doing well and it doesn't affect India at all whether India get a permanent UNSC seat or not. Without India UNSC has no meaning. Now coming to your point I would say that you should get out from this illusion that China can stop India from becoming permanent member of UNSC. India don't see its interest in current UNSC system.

Today NATO has more significance than UNSC and India is a aspiring superpower hence nobody can stop us to take our seat.

Yes, Tigers are endangered species to others but for Tiger its not an issue coz He's a Tiger. Yeah Pigs are mass produced coz Tiger needs someone to clean the area.

Well, obviously, india would be better if she can get a permanent UNSC seat. Otherwise you cannot explain all these money, resources india spent with her G4 friends. If india can't get anything from this seat, why bother to buy it?

Oh, China can and China did that already!

US and China kill British proposal for UN Security Council reform « The Gstaad Project

India, however, is not applying for a seat in NATO.
So, let's get it straight. India wants this seat in UNSC badly. No one wants to stop you as long as you pay the price!

China fears Japan getting membership and that's why- it will stand on its toe and do anything to delay the reforms as much as possible.... its the bottom line.if China is not fearing anyone then why its NOT letting it done. :lol:

I am talking about the current UNSC scene and structure. UNSC will have to go through extensive modification and reforms before any country joins as a permanent member and the same applies to India too. If in current system India become the permanent member than it won't solve much purpose as each time India will try to pass an charter then other members would veto it and charter would be scrapped and this would repeat with everyone. UNSC will have to expand to become more fair and effective.

See China had affected in past does not mean China can do it again. Things have been changed and now all four UNSC permanent members are supporting Indian candidature. If USA alone decide to get India in then China won't be able to do anything rather than veto and a veto can not stop India.

It is general tendency, people doesn't like change and hence tries to avoid it, tries to stop it but change is the reality and those who do not cope with it lost themselves in history. So Indian permanent membership is a change in UNSC system and it is coming and nobody can stop it.

You still don't get it. UNSC is not an organization for the whole world, it only serves the big powers. It provides a forum for big powers to talk through their conflict instead of fighting in the battlefield. So, no matter how UNSC is going to reform, it has to protect big powers' interest.

Actually, all five including China are supporting indian candidature. The problem is other 3 in your G4 group:

Russia doesn't like German;
China opposes Japan;
US doesn't support Brazil;

So, there is no way to grant everyone of G4 seat.
However, it is quite doubtful that india can get enough votes fot this seat all by itself.
