Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

@ezsasa, the deadline may come and go without any official word. Defence procurement is highly complicated in India with military and economic relations entwined. There are too many dependencies on the French to call for an abrupt end. Most likely Government already knows the writing on the...

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II IAF is indeed creating serious roadblocks in LCA Tejas programs by imposing requirements not needed at all. The existing radar and nose cone are sufficient for the role of a strike fighter (which is likely to fly with bombs and close combat missiles). Such a fighter...

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II @MANT!, I have said the same thing many times of this Board. LCA Tejas is not perfect, but it is a TRULY INDIGENOUS aircraft. This aircraft is spawning a whole industry in India which is very good aspect of it. LCA Tejas has proven a good strike fighter (far better...

The people who had access in previous regime may not have access in this regime. So believing the same people now will lead to the wrong path. Giving correct information is a question of having access. I have said on this board that extra Pilatus will be approved as HAL trainer is not...

Re: ADA LCA Tejas - IV I am sure IAF will fly Tejas with pride. The serial production has started, and actions towards FOC are being taken in all seriousness. Modi government is big positive for Tejas. I would have liked to see Rafale in IAF too but I am NOT positive due to mismanagement of...

The Mig-21 is flying on old engines, where each engine has been serviced too many times. IAF has not ordered news engines. It does not have a reserve of new engines either. I suspect Mig-21 fleet problem is directly related to engine. Soviet fighters were built for a short service life. Our...

Re: UPDATED Numbers Of Indian Airforce from Flight Global 2015 First thing - each fighter class is divided into combat aircraft and combat capable trainer aircraft. Second - reserves and/or aircraft in storage. All numbers should be given.

IAF is NOT UP TO THE MARK in maintenance of its inventory. I am sure even Rafale will suffer high accident rate in IAF service. The quality of maintenance in IAF is subpar (learned direct from retired IAF technicians).

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II @Ray, how can any government department function without "Bureaucracy"? The same true for Army also. The yes-man culture is very strong in India. As I said, the improvement will come when there is competition. Let three design bureau design fighter planes in parallel?

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II No the ADA works as a design bureau which is the correct approach for developing aircrafts. HAL should also develop aircrafts in parallel. Maybe HAL can create another light fighter design to compete with Tejas. Tejas production can be moved to Tata.

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II @Ray, there is a case of increasing ex-military personnel in all civilian aspects, not only HAL. This is what happens in USA. Military does impart discipline and a unique approach to solving problems. India's military needs to think in terms of short tenure...

Re: ADA LCA Tejas Mark-II @Ray, the need of the hour is to make do with Su-30 and LCA, both multi-role fighters. The money saved from MMRCA must be ploughed into new fighter design like AMCA, and building domestic aviation industry. The most critical need remains fighter engine, where every...

It think it is better for EU to stay out of Russia-Ukraine dispute. Let them settle it on their own. India is also affected by this dispute but India does not take sides.

You do not get the point. Indians do not care if Viktor Yanukovych was sacked or fled or whatever. This is not our issue. What we care is ethnic tension to subside in Ukraine after an inclusive democracy is built. The hooliganism must not be promoted as it is being promoted today by EU. If...

What Germany favours is Germany's problem. What SU signed is SU's problem. All I know is SU is dead. "Invading Ukraine" is too strong a term to use. Ukraine is seeing a civil war. The origin of this civil war lies in rise of extremism and Nazism in Ukraine. You show me the "Helsinki"...

No, fundamentals never change. You are still eating the same bread you were eating in 16th century. Germany is getting bogged down by other European countries. Lack of independence will cause a lot of trouble to Germany. The existence of NATO is a serious risk to peace as all these...
