New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

Here is what I would expect for a good comparison: Fire both rifles either in an enclosed shooting range or in an outdoor shooting range. Fire both rifles from either prone or standing position, with the stock on the shoulder. Use the same ammunition with equal grain for both the rifles. A...

Ishapore 2A1 is a 7.62 x 51 NATO version (not a conversion) of the original .303 Short Magazine Lee-Enfield or SMLE. It looks somewhat similar to Springfield (probably due to the Remington heritage of the SMLE) but was developed from the .303 SMLE. Both 7.62 x 51 NATO SMLE and .303 SMLE are...

Can anyone confirm whether the picture at the top of the article is indeed the Excalibur? Or is it some random internet ripoff?

Most of the troops are not equipped with AKMs, but considering AKMs are used in COIN, it is possible that the 7.62x39mm rounds are expended in larger numbers.

Dragunov and PKM do have interchangeable rounds - the 7.62x54R. In India, the 5.56mm NATO is used for both INSAS AR and INSAS LMG. We do not have a sniper rifle in 5.56mm NATO calibre, and I am not sure whether this is realistic. We also have the 7.62x51 NATO rounds, that could be used by...

Calibre is actually one of the trend areas w.r.t. small arms development. Here is an excerpt from an article from 2009.

As far as small arms are concerned, we have reached a technological plateau. Let me list some of the milestones w.r.t. firearms. gunpowder casing rifling magazine (gravity-fed or spring-fed) self-loading (gas-operated or blow-back) Most other innovations have been minor. I am not anticipating...

Re: India goes shopping for a new assault rifle Israeli engineers have recently (about a year or so now) have visited RFI. There is speculation amongst RFI employees that an Israeli design will be introduced and rifles manufactured at RFI therefrom.

Re: India goes shopping for a new assault rifle I cannot comment on the accuracy or recoil, but from the looks of it, the Chinese QBZ rifles exude a sense of refinement and quality in workmanship/manufacturing.

New Assault Rifles for Indian Army

Valid question. I sometimes wonder why they even switched from 7.62 mm to 5.56 mm in the first place. Now they will probably tout 6.2 mm. Fine by me. After another 5 years, they will come up with some new calibre. They should simply stick to the following: 7.62x39mm 7.62x51mm...

So here is my feedback: I agree with you. It has too much flash. The good thing is that it is fairly controllable. At least in full auto, it does not veer to one side, but stays straight.

You mean the Soviet WWII carbine with a drum magazine? IDK. Only collectors night have it. I don't even know if they make ammo for those. I have never seen or heard about it anywhere in the Carolinas (NC, SC). Sorry, but if I get to know, I'll let you know. I tried these two today...

Are these gas operated? Most of the SIGs I see around are blow-backs (not something I am a fan of).

I guess they let it slide for militia. :) My dad now has one brown eye and one blue eye, just like a Siberian Husky. He had a cornea grafting operation to remove the old cornea that had a scratch from my dad's friend's baby's nails. :) It's a long story. In any case, he was made the...
