HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

The Mil-24/35 is called the Krokodil or Crocodile. Calling the LCH Gharial or Alligator would be quite unoriginal.

The context was Pathankot. In extreme high altitude regions we can completely rule out the Mil-24/35. HAL LCH is the only option we have in high altitude. So, yes, it will be vulnerable but we have no other option. In Pathankot, we have the option of using the Mil-24/35.

HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

The Mil-24/35 is one of the most heavily armoured helicopters ever built. It was reasonable to use it for observation due to this very fact. It can go close to enemy targets on the ground with little risk. The downside is that it does not perform very well in high altitude. HAL LCH is built to...

Thanks for the response and I agree. You mentioned the Mil-24/35 during the Pathankot attacks. I presume they were not shooting at anything, just performing observation. I was not able to follow how that fits into this discussion.

Interesting discussion regarding the situation of the EO pod. I have a few questions: Is there any attack helicopter in service that is able to shoot a target directly below it or behind it? Is there any attack helicopter in service that is able to target the leeward side of a hill (I assume...

@12:35 the test pilot says, "Sukhoi is my baby . . ." He later says "Tejas is a mini Sukhoi." :)

I'd focus on the J&K part. J&K -> high altitude. High altitude warfare is the strength of LCH.

@Pulkit, HAL already outsources components for LCA to private vendors. I don't know to what extent and I don't know whether this is also true for LCH. The supply chain might not be mature. Your suggestion is good. Anything that gets the production rate up should be implemented.

HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

Given the number of LCH that are about to be produced, it would make sense to involve Indian private companies to set up one or more assembly lines, even if it is for the main structure. That way HAL can focus on more critical projects, such as LCA, AMCA, upcoming T-50/FGFA, and a whole bunch of...

@San-E, you are a great artist. Keep up the good work. Perhaps open a new thread for your stuff altogether? There was another member who was here just for a few posts, who made some Indian Army figures for ArmA II, and then there is this thread...

^^ Thanks for sharing @WMD. Looks like further reduction of weight will make it very effective in the heights up to 6,500 m, and it could possibly fight battles in the Aksai Chin region with ease. We should fast track this, and induct as many as possible.

Guys, LCH is derived from ALH. We know ALH goes upto Siachen. Let us trust LCH. Also, it will definitely go higher than Mil-24/35.

Mostly true. Not sure what you mean by 'long range.' Reports say that the Mil-24/35 is the only helicopter to have shot down fighter jets in combat. mi24av1
