    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Turkey is NATO....India is not, am not sure if its like that with us. Any specific recordings from US regarding this in India's case?

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Why not go for F-35? Growlers may have to wait for 65kt INS Vishal if it ever happens....ICA-1 is optimistically 2025? what do you guys think about ICA-1 commissioning date?

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Yes, they may go for F-18 if it becomes political and they gain somewhere else with US favors. Never know but that means more deviation between IAF and IN leading to extra costs and less leverage in negotiations. TEDBF should be prioritized heavily. Actually T/w for Rafale is slightly better...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Ya, TEDBF weight is in sync with mig or rafale. F-18 would be too heavy for the size of vikky and its range is small even with that weight. It is good for US Nimitz class super carriers but I am not sure its ideal for 40kt carriers. Mig29k/TEDBF are the only choice in my opinion....TEDBF needs...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Here are the weights empty/gross/maxtakeoff in tons: Mig29k: 11/19/24.5t Rafale: 10/15/24.5t F-18: 14.5/21.3/30t Navy is very unlikely to go with F-18 as far as vikramaditya is concerned....I picked Fa-18 E/F but they are all same ball park range.

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Hornet is heavy man for that size of carrier.....takes toll in landing even if it has better t/w.....Rafale, mig and Tejas are more likely to win. If they complained Tejas weight then how do you think they will go for SH? Just check its weight.

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

We do not have catapult and IN complained even navalized Tejas prototype on vikramaditya. F-18 weight is too heavy for a skijump in my opinion

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

No one is buying F-18s yet, just a discussion on whats possible for IN carriers. They are too heavy for our carriers.

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Nice try but does not work like that....negotiations might happen with OEM like that for leverage and may work on Tejas development like that but thats not how it works in general.

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Never heard that kinda calculaion....IAF ruled out US jets and went for Rafales, Naval jets come from navy budget and has nothing to do with mki upgrade.
  11. O

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Not sure I follow....what do you mean upg MKI? If you mean SU-30 MKI then they are too heavy for a carrier....F-18 also is too heavy most likely without a catapult or emals. That leaves Mig29k/Rafale/Tejas as potential

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

That's an option if they have money but migs are more likely and rather sufficient or they wait for Tejas. Vikrant is atleast 3 to 4 years away.
  13. O

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

This is about jets for navy. MKI is not an option. Mig 29k/Rafale/F18/Tejas (not available yet).....F-18 is too heavy for carrier Vikramaditya and possibly vikrant. Mig29k would be the ideal option from cost pov especially if they can get mig 35 tech into it....Rafales are good but damn too...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Probably a bit too heavy and US sanctions are a big threat anytime but yes its a good plane however adding one more OEM will make maintenance that much expensive
  15. O

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Rafael is a good plane and they should buy them when the production line is still open but France is moving onto better and I hope they secure the spares and upgrades into the contract. India should work with Russia on Mig35 to navalize till Tejas can be navalized satisfactorily. We should not...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

They are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to air war in that area with us, certainly we should be on level 1 alert and India can react to an attack like that in many sectors across the border from ladakh to Arunachal. It is possible I guess, where did the migs got deployed?
  17. O

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

India may not do that because operationally there is no need to put airplanes in Ladakh, just too close unless there is an offensive mindset. At that altitude, performance of planes will be even less compared to lower altitude take off.....in other words it will not give us that much benefit...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Hmm no....India should stay away from consortium based makes and stick with French, Indian and Russian makes when it comes to fighters and interceptors. Can you imagine the logistics to do maintenance w.r.t human, skill and materials not to mention costs and upgrades? They should do the same in...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

At some point India should do it on its own or else Israel will be new Russia in terms of dependency and that is worse than Russia. Anyway, roughly 400 nm range should be good enough to defend Indian interests for now in areas we typically operate which is mostly Indian Ocean and to protect our...

    F-18 Advanced Super Hornet

Yeah, mig-29k or F-35 are the only choices and F-35 can be eliminated for obvious reasons.....defaults to mig-29k I guess unless India can negotiate the mig-35 improvements into mig-29k and buy them in numbers to fill the gaps for both navy and airforce simplifying the fleet and logistics...
