HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

Just like we fly ELINT birds on our side, they do too. and yes, the MSS has extremely good HUMINT.

SAAW bombs need velocity of a fast jet to have optimum range, so probably not

That American BCT has some Stryker SHORADS that would like to have a word with you. We need to modify the Kestrel, give it SHORADS and a high RoF 30mm cannon with smart fusing. Anti everything.

They are already partnering with DRDO on projects. Sensors, guidance systems and the like. I suspect tech obtained via foul play of some kind. Doesn't bother me.

the T129 Mangusta deal has been shelved, thanks to Murican pressure - so, a matter of fact, they don't have access.

They are indeed compatible. All American aircraft that we have bought are equipped with BEL made Comms and EW gear. They are quite closely integrated with Indian C&C

who said? COMCASA gives us access to NATO grade Comms but that doesn't mean American equipment bought by us doesn't have any Comms. All Indian systems have BEL Datalinks. Which allows them to communicate amongst themselves.

Agreed sir. Which is why half of all IAF and IA Apaches are the Longbow variant. Speculation is that they'll be linked with 3-4 LCH/Rudras and direct them to targets. LCH/Rudras will do NoE flying to avoid enemy ground fire (being guided by the long range radar of Apaches) before popping up and...

The only disadvantage the LCH faces at theatres other than High Altitude is lack of armor or atleast it appears to lack armor when compared to Apaches and Mi35s. At high altitude, it's better to have some rotary firepower than nothing

Because 12.7mm is the bare minimum of firepower any infantry column will have in its support element. Forget tanks and Mech Inf who will have 30mm autocannons and above. If an attack helicopter cannot survive a few hits from a 50 cal HMG, then it's doomed. Granted the LCH isn't even supposed to...

True. But AA fire will be 20 mm at the very least. But then, we are getting Apaches to support our armored columns. We need more than 28 though. Like ~ 50

Good going!! Looks like IAF is on a roll! I was wondering where this project went. There had been no news on this for some time.

@Devil's Lawyer Comparing the Apache to the LCH is like comparing a MBT to a IFV. Apples and oranges!!! Tha APache is meant for operating primarily in an anti-armour role. The LCH can do something no other bird can: fly at Himalayan altitude of 12000 ft!!!!

Thats one bird the enemy won't want to see rising up to strafe their bunkers at Himalayan heights!!! Way to go DRDO!!!!!!:thumb:
