HAL Prachand - Light Combat Helicopter (LCH)

Laser guided ATGM is now losing its sheen. We are moving to fire and forget missiles and Satellite navigation guided bombs. Why would anyone want to use laser now? Isn't it simply better to acquire the satellite positioning to guide even simpler bombs? By the way, why would a light helicopter...

Wouldn't it be better to have a drone with radar than a helicopter. Helicopter generally works in low heights from the ground. It has 20mm canons for a reason. If it flies too high, canon will be useless

Can you please help me understand the need for a radar in a helicopter? Why not use a drone or an aircraft? What kind of radar is used in a helicopter and why?

Without fire control radar, even a tqnk can't fire missiles. If LCH can fire missiles, it has fire control radar. Fire control radar is used to target, then arm rockets and missiles to fire and then fire. Fire control radars are not necessarily active scanned arrays or some complex radars. The...

Helicopters are not that effective in scaring anyone, especially in mountain warfare. Helicopter can't even launch missiles and can be taken out by stinger missile quite easily

Nope, it is almost ready. We have test fired Nag recently and it worked fine. Its range however decreased by 25% in 50 degrees Celsius heat. In normal places, it works well. It will take a year or two for induction. But the LCH will also take 2-3 years to be produced in large numbers and to be...

LCH can operate even in deserts but is one of the few helis which can fly at 20000feet. It is similar to Apache helicopters and is a good replacement, There is no reason to say that LCH won't work on plain lands. But, in plains, it is better to use aircrafts as helicopters are slow and can be...
