I don't get why people here think isro scientists are morons. They certainly weighed the pros and cons when deciding video resolution. Higher resolutions and quality require more power to generate video. They want to keep the rover and lander running as long as possible, not shoot the next...

You are going to run out of battery in a day if you are going to generate and transmit 4k uhd videos from it.

Probably limiting video resolution to conserve power. Higher resolutions require more processing and hence more energy. Plus the bandwidth of the connection is not very high (I think it's less than 1 mpbs, but I may be wrong).
