    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

circa 2013 an excellent post on the bulbous bow on this forum https://defenceforumindia.com/threads/indigenous-vikrant-class-aircraft-carrier-iac.77/post-771656 TL;DR Bow design, indeed Ship design is quite complex and best left to the experts at WDB (erstwhile DND).

Then to the earlier plan add a consultancy with ADA to sort out airframe issues via simulations and strengthen the airframe where required.

Looking at the close fit on lift & also the hanger entry below deck for F-18 or Rafale M & how the -29K really is the perfect fit for our carriers a thought occurred to me. Why don't we plonk a couple of F414s into -29K, replace its landing gear with one planned for TEDBF, spruce up its...

FWIW, IDRW reports the Rafale M took off with 3.5 ton payload from SBTF. https://idrw.org/rafale-m-offered-to-indian-navy-has-95-commonality-to-iafs-rafale-dassault/ If both these numbers are close to truth then it may boil down to affordability and size viz. how many(more) of each can fit on...

Why not more P8Is (with more kit after BECA, LEMOA & COMCASA), AH-64s, Chinooks, C-5, C-130 etc etc. US has a different line up we are interested in. I am hoping what you are hoping - that these are just pressure tactics to squeeze a better Rafale M deal.

All hail Uncle Sam? F-18 Super Hornet managed to exceed Indian Navy's requirements for MRCBF program. MRFA to Rafale and MRCBF to F-18? Bye bye commonality and common sense?

Are you saying the plane is airborne before it gets on to the take off ramp? Why did we go through the hassle of establishing the entire SBTF then? Watch and be better informed https://youtube.com/shorts/KT1n5E4Ff40?feature=share...

What would those tyre marks on the take off ramp seem to suggest?

Vikrant & Vikramaditya side by side Very interesting pic! The maturity of Indian ship designing is clearly visible! The 40,000+tons #Vikrant & 45,000tons #Vikramaditya in one pic! Vikrant is lighter. Still the deck space of Vikrant is far bigger & wider than Vikramaditya! @indiannavy

Boeing confirms F-18E/F Super Hornet will be able to fit on the elevators onboard current Indian aircraft carriers. May be, just may be..

https://www.livefistdefence.com/rafale-begins-ski-jump-demo-at-goa-today/ He seems to suggest F/A-18 E/F or Rafale M/B are destined for both Vikramaditya & Vikrant

If Vikramaditya is really turning out to be such a pain (harbour queen) then maybe we could have forgone that deal altogether? A few years wait and we have the Vikrant almost ready. I think it was INs unfounded fear of being left with no ACC that forced it to make the wrong calls back then...

Shishir Gupta does not know what he is talking about.. SH wingspan: 14m SH folded wingspan: 9.32m Rafale M wingspan: 10.8m .. folding is not an option SH also has a very capable EA variant- the Growler & has navalised single and two seaters, Rafale M is only single seat. F414 brings...

So they'll need something for both the carriers? Or is Vikramaditya going to be retired prematurely?? Isn't that a gigantic waste of $2.35B?

Maybe to show the Russians how annoyed they are with poor service record of the 29Ks. BTW keeping aside the logic of commonality with Vikramaditya- and no size issues on Vikrant itself, if IN buys more of a plane they are not too happy with- what does it show about INs decision making & choices?

But it's going to create an aircraft zoo. Less numbers of a type is a usually a recipe for disaster- dedicated ground handling equipment, new supply chain, dedicated simulators, dedicated weapons, new tactics. And all that knowledge useless outside a small circle of naval aviators. Whatever...

    INS Vikrant Aircraft Carrier (IAC)

It has folding wings so it's stored footprint is not so large. It has both single seat fighters and dual seat fighter/trainers certified for CATOBAR carrier ops. If anything the Rafale M with non folding wings (deck lift tolerances very tight) and no twin seat naval variant is the weaker...
