Eh it's open knowledge that navy wants an aip and vls plug to launch bramhos from submarine.

Navy wants a sub which can fire bramhos from vls tube with aip for greater endurance. Kilos are cheap and they are good for coastal defense in numbers. In twelve years Indian SSN will be prowling in Malacca strait and indegenios SSK will be coming out of our dockyard . So we actually need to...

Yup it's not latest but kilos are silent and deadly . I'm not advocating it . Just pointing out that is the ideal size if coastal defense is the priority. India wants coastal defense with just few ssk so they need to be both small with decent range.

Now you are coming close to what navy actually wants. So what is the French offering for it? An Scorpion with plug? A new design ?

Then we should go for indegenios ssk. Let Scorpion be the edge and even if our indegenios ssk are a bit behind in tech yet they will provide immense experience of building our own and improving in subsequent batches . Even if we don't get tot. We can get Western propulsion and drive train...

Exactly India must go for big nuke SSN and small coastal ssk . No need for some absurd non nuke yet big ssk.

If that's the logic then smallest ssk will be better like Amur from Russia.

Again it's not comparable since Virginia is nuke SSN and high price is justified. Not for an SSK.

Smaller ssk! Barracuda is not small it's upward 4 tons. Indian SSN will be 5-6 ton. We are building SSN regardless of 75i .

A relook at the Australian submarine blunder. https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/the-aggregate-failure-of-australias-submarine-policy/ There are two problems with that way of thinking about submarine capability. First, our future submarine will operate in waters with nuclear-powered submarines...

I think navy wants western technology for SSK. Russian tech will help SSN where nobody will help us. German also gave us TOT back in 1980s but then Russian offered even cheaper kilos and since we were bankrupt we chose kilos over building on the German TOT. Still Russian are always in the game...

Yup we have screwed up in the follow up of the plan. If we had already started 75i then in next 4-5 years we could've started building indegenios subs after Scorpion line is vacated. I don't think this time our yards will sit idle . I'm guessing either a few more Scorpion will be build ( 4...

It's in 30 year plan of navy. 6 75 at one dockyard building expertise + 675i at another dockyard building expertise. Then build 12 indegenios at these 2 dockyards parallely . It's a solid plan . And obviously they want something different in expertise at second dockyard . Otherwise they'd...

No that's the cost of building one of world's most advanced nuke sub. To say an SSK price is justified around it is pure deliberate Lying.

So will be buy a submarine to not use it? Not maintain it? Stop this nonsense of dry price . State the full price of manufacturing , maintainance and service. Because everyone will have to pay that price eventually.

And Virginia class in all nuclear. Much much more capable than any ssk could ever be !

I am thinking logically it's still very expensive for an SSK. We can build and run indegenios SSN for the same price or less. And maintain it for 30 years. If we were buying nuke submarine I'd agree with that price , not for a mere ssk.

That's logical . But navy wants two lines of conventional submarine. So that later it can build 12 local submarine from expertise gained.

These 35 billion dollars are not Australian dollars they are us dollars. In Australian dollars the deal was 50billlion. So A$4.2B per ssk. Or us $3 per ssk. Secondly performance based maintenance is now part of all standard defense deals. If we get the ssk from France we'll also sign...
