Comparing with the GE-404 Turbo fan which is on the LCA now the Kaveri does look very perplexing!!!! The compressor is very small? The Kaveri does not look like a turbo fan but a Turbojet, the Fan is ducted to the compressor and there seems to be no bypass!!

Thats because this project is a failure, they have not achieved the target thrust and they are keeping it a secret, the 80kN achieved by the kaveri is at the cost of huge fuel dumping.

The air passing through the duct is transonic, which means the air has to slow down to subsonic speeds before turbine entry in any fighter aircraft. Airflow is always slowed down to manageable subsonic speeds! Also where did you read this speed issue?

Does it look more like 82.5kN? If it is 82.5kN then that is remarkable however one should also see how much fuel it consumes to achieve that thrust! The LCA PV-1 was built for the Kaveri and it does not need much modification. It has been stored away in some hanger awaiting the Kaveri engine...
