The way Indian procurement system works - you meet the requirement, you get full marks. You don't meet the requirement, you get zero marks. Going above & beyond the requirement does not give you any extra marks. Unless required, nobody will offer VLS because adding another module will increase...

That is interpretation of HI Sutton. The VLS requirement is not mentioned anywhere. Show me a single official document requiring it? There's no indication that this was added in the RFP (which is only available for SP/OEMs btw, so HI Sutton couldn't have seen it even if it was) either.

VLS not a requirement - in fact the version of KSS that's being offered in P75I will not have any VLS according to the Koreans: https://www.navalnews.com/event-news/madex-2021/2021/06/madex-2021-dsme-sheds-light-on-submarine-offer-to-india-for-p-75i/ The AIP & LIB packages will have to be...

Seems that inclusion of Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIB) technology is going to be a mandatory requirement under P-75I, alongside AIP. https://mazagondock.in/images/pdf/investor-update-call-transcript-29062021.pdf

Yes - I should've said it removes turbine-based reduction gears. I believe the turbine/turbo-generator setup on Barracuda is something like this:

Our CLWR-B1 (83mwT) PWR used on Arihant-class is derived from a modified VM-series reactor design, very likely based on the 70-90mwt VM-4 used on Charlie-class (which we leased between 1988-91), but adapted to use 40% HEU instead of 20% as we needed it for deterrence role. The in-development...

There is some analysis by Prasun K. Sengupta on his blog regarding the matter, though for some reason he refers to the Indian SSN program as Project-78A: http://trishul-trident.blogspot.com/2021/09/indias-project-78a-ssn-construction.html I haven't seen/heard anything solid yet, so I'll...

In what way? If you mean in terms of nuclear subs - the Indian Navy already has an extensive N-sub program, 3 different programs in fact (Arihant-class SSBN, S-5 SSBN & P-75A SSN). If you are implying India should substitute its diesel/AIP sub programs with SSNs for a fully-nuclear fleet like...

That sets it to rest...disappointed though.

So the Russians want us to be the guinea pig for their untested, unreliable AIP system that they don't trust enough to use themselves (even though Russia unlike France still uses diesel subs in fleet). No thank you. I still maintain that P-75I should be scrapped in place of a repeat order for...

It's pointless. Torpedos are the most important weapon of a submarine, missiles are secondary. The torpedo cavities are designed to accommodate a 533mm tube. You have you tear up the whole front section if you want to do any remodeling. By the time such a modification is built, tested &...

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

The torpedo tubes have a diameter of 533mm so anything bigger is certainly not going to fit. We are not going for the new submarines (P-75I) for the express purpose of launching BrahMos from them. The only important thing about P-75I is the AIP fitment which current Scorpenes don't have. Even...

Regarding ongoing procurements/already delivered products, PKSG had this to say - " Existing contracts will be adhered to. Only no new contracts will be inked. That means product-support contracts for 76/62 SRGM & RAN-40L will continue without any hindrance. But yet-to-be-placed contracts with...

That's while powered by the diesel-electric setup. Once AIP comes online to extend the submersed time, speed is severely curtailed to preserve the limited power source. Scorpene also can reach 20 knots submerged. There is nothing wrong in having AIP for future Scorpenes, it has it's uses. But...

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

While relying on power provided by the AIP, a submarine's speed in usual conditions cannot be more than 5-6 knots. AIP is an auxiliary power pack - it's not a primary power source, that is still the diesel-electric engine. The AIP only increases the submarine's own maximum underwater endurance...

I was correcting your words. You wrote Brahmos as Brohmos. As of P-75I, whether we really want a VLS or not depends on IN's requirement. If they're ok without it...might as well scrap the tender right away and order +6 more Scorpenes with MESMA-II or DRDO AIP.

    Project-75I class SSK Submarines

Corrected! ++ As far as P-75I goes, we are most likely to select the S80 Super Scorpene. If not scrap the tender altogether and go with a modified/improved Scorpene with AIP. A VLS fitment might also be possible if we expand the hull a bit.
