In 20 years, metallurgy and engine tech would've moved to a higher level.

This is not risk... This is stupidity... No company will waste their resources to produce some 80 prototype/LSP engines. This EOI is made to fool people into thinking that private companies are being asked to compete, and that is misleading.

Who'll agree to make 80 engines in 10 years ?! All the overheads would result in a very high unit cost.. Either the order size should increase or HAL will be the only contender.

In any case... US will have higher leverage, since the entire future line is being thought of based on f404/414..

    Kaveri Engine

Not really.. Consider this scenario... India makes 83 tejas with f404 or Mwf with f414 and then throws tantrum or other tactic to acquire engine tech. Who do you think will suffer?? Or are you thinking of strapping Al31 to the tejas fuselage?! :D

A bit smaller ?!?! Dude, look at those specs. Those are huge differences. Its tough even to upgrade F404 jets to F414 and those 2 are basically the thing, except for an extra 2.5 inches and a spool fan. Let alone entirely different classes of engines.

Not to be disrespectful and all. But US has way more leverage on India than vice versa. I mean, India is still importing items like M777 which are not exactly cutting edge and even shells like excalibur etc, not to mention K9 thunder which is based on US M109 which is decades old. I lot of work...

IAF doesn't have the J10, does it? I thought you were expecting tejas to fly with either Al31 or M88, thats what i answered for.

Both of these engines are in different classes as compared to F404/414. There's literally no way you can modify a jet to be powered by such different sizes. If you hope to employ these engines, it needs to be set within the design phase of an aircraft.

    Kaveri Engine

Atleast for the next decade , the entire Indian mfg line for aircraft will be f*cked. I see people saying it'll be a good thing that indigenous engine prog will be boosted, but it wont exactly be usable from get go. Neither will be snecma engines since complete redesign will be required to...

Again, It has only 6 tons of thrust. Completely fueled it will stand close to 12 tons. It probably can't carry anymore than 2 tons of armament for safe flight at this point. This is what the pilots say about it - 'Jaguar’s current engines are so underpowered that the fighter only gets airborne...

    Kaveri Engine

So, until they get funds, then do r&d to integrate afterburner and testing, not to mention aircraft integration, the entire jaguar fleet is supposed to be just obsolete? Re engining requirement has been present since 2008 when average airframe life was over 50% of technical life. Considering...

You do know 25 in 'htfe 25' stands for 25 kn?What makes you so confident that an engine that the manufacturer itself says is for trainer jets will power a 'striker' jet?

The highest service from GTRE now will be providing a 40+KN engine to stop 110 jaguars from going wasted.

No, this deal is related to making a heavy profit through back channels. Indigo will 'buy' the aircraft now for a discount, and when they are delivered, sell them back at a profit , and then lease the same aircraft for use.. Its an accounting loophole used by all major airlines. At this point ...

Leverage chips are gone... Its either safran jv or drdo going at it alone.. Latter would probably take a decade.. While former would take a commitment to bankroll production lines.. Well, isn't this a shit show..

Not sure about drone application. Last i heard about aura, mtow was to be around 15 tonnes. Considering that dry variant will be used, military thrust of about 60kN is required. Kaveri hasn't achieved that yet.

Dependency on m88 core will again render us as import partners and grossly tie up are hands to the core's characteristics with little control on utlizing its variations.
