one thousand tons of TNT in a hand, 44 tons in another. Can't compete.

? Big doubt. Even in IEM a classical warhead is far from being as potent.

In the same time the yield of our nuc was drastically reduced. on our missiles we currantly used 1 megaton warhead, and now it is more 120 to 150kt max. France stockpile of nearly 300 : not the same to have 300 x 1 Mt or 300 x 150Kt.

SLBM is usefull for retaliate. A hard first strike may destroy all your airfields and your ground based missiles. It's why a SLBM is so important, and why GB for exemple only have this nuc component.

Because they all have to face the first navy of the world : USN. But in the case of India, any foe will not be america.

    Agni V Missile

easy for a nuc powered sub. Only a question of time. more or less 20 days at 10 knots, a speed not too noisy.

    Agni V Missile

If you have to retaliate, SLBM is the best solution, as all the other nuc components may have been destroyed by the 1st wave of your foe.

    Agni V Missile

You only have two possible ennemy in the near future : pak and China. Your arsenal is good for an immediate retaliation on these. For all the others, you can send your sub near the threat, at a comfortable distance (saying 2000 km) and fires all the coastal cities and some targets in the...

I don't agree. USA with 32000 warheads, with hundreds megatons one, was able to make far more damages than with 2000 today, mos of them in the 100kt each.

You can't stop the progress ! In the France Arsenal, the number of warheads was slightly over 500 in the 90's. Now less than 300. No more Megaton warhead. The max is the ASMPA with a 300kt. No more tactical nuc (Pluton, Hades). The deterrent subs was 6 in the 90's. 4 now. GB made even more ...

I fully agree. Better have a single 150kt with good accuracy and longer range (because lighter) than a 1000kt warhead, with same accuracy, but lower range.

If I remember well, France made one 2.6 MT and one 1.3 MT tests. All the others far less, from 0,5 kt. All the last tests (1988 to 1991) from 2kt to 120kt, with an average of 45kt. Megaton warhead is only interesting on one warhead missile, at the begining of the building of a deterrence. It's...

    Agni V Missile

In the case of a multi warheads missile, the ideal yield of each is more or less 150kt. Except against some very hardened targets, a megaton warhead is useless. Drop a 150kt or a 1000kt bomb on Shanghai will not make so much difference I think : maybe few less deads, same mess. It's the choice...

It seems on a truck, so movable, so very difficult to detect and destroy prevently.

Is it MIRV now or single warhead for the moment? How many warheads? What yield range?

    Agni V Missile

MARV may be a single warhead, but also multiple warheads (as US Trident 2) MIRV is not manoeuvrable.

4 x 250kg warheads nead some stuff so as to deliver each warhead on the right target. It weight a lot. Same when there is more than one warhead. I think it is called "a bus"....
