    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

225 million figure is high since we already paid most of the initial costs of simulators, SCALPs and infrastructure. Additional costs this time would be for more meteors and spare parts, 150-180 million per rafale should cover it.

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

The most sensible decision is to immediately order 72 more rafales while keeping indigenous projects going. India can afford to shell out another 10 billion as an immediate measure given the air situation. Needs to be spearheaded by PMO and done on a G2G level. Secondly there needs to be...

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

For an indigenous engine, we'll have to start out with a foreign engine core, like what Safran was offering, and mass produce them in India. Only later through serious R&D can our guys get the expertise to make the entire engine themselves, which will take a while. We can't wait for a completely...

Then we should get 114 more rafales, and end the matter. We're trying to build a modern fighter fleet, not a zoo. Initial costs of rafales have already been paid, and more rafales will ensure parts commonality and ease of maintenance + operations with existing order of 36 rafales. It's...

Get 36 more Rafales, and produce large numbers of Tejas Mk 2. Upgrade the sukhois to have AESA. Save money for AMCA and Kaveri. Expand AWACS fleet to 10-12, and tanker fleet to 12-14. Work on expanding the drone fleet dramatically, for strike roles and for Electronic warfare against air defence...

Yup, Russian radar and EW tech has fallen far behind the west. Even their air to air missiles are not as sophisticated as the latest western AAM's. 10 years ago, our Su 30MKI's were better than any f 15 variant, and the Americans were intimidated by it in Red flag and Cope India. Now the latest...

I don't think it's a good idea. We don't need any more huge bomb trucks right now. We need smaller, less observable, but advanced fighters like the Rafale or super hornet, with lower operational costs. Super sukhoi upgrade can bring MKI's to almost F 15 EX standard.

All the additional Rafales will also have to have India specific enhancements, more air shelters will have to be built, and more weapons and spares will have to be procured. It won't be as expensive as the first 36, but I think the price per plane will be much more than 105 million. Anyway, the...

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

Amounts to 91.6 million USD per plane. All others will cost as much too, so Rafale is the only logical option for MRCA. But I hope they get it done quickly. And the great thing about MRCA is that HAL is out of the picture this time. The manufacturer can choose their Indian partner.

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

110 western fighters with weapons and spares will cost that much. 70-80 million dollar figures are bullshit. We're in expensive times. If you look at all the new fighter jet contracts, it comes to 150-200 million dollars per plane. The exception being F 16 sales. Meanwhile the Chinese are...

1.75 lakh crore rupees is 25 billion dollars. With this amount, we can afford 110 Rafales. Let's hope Rafale wins the competition. We cannot add any more fighter types to IAF's already Hodge podge inventory.
