Ditto. We can't afford 114 gold-plated MMRCA.2 either... Cutting it to 72 RafaleF4 & 40 more FOC Tejas would not only be affordable but will also allow us to expand the Tejas manufacturing capacity now only.

Correct... Even better would be to keep G2Ging more Rafales in batches of 36 & expand the Tejas order with the change. We still don't have that sort of money set aside for a single import of 114 of one of world's costliest jets. India just cleared orders of 83 Tejas, 12 Su-30 & 21 Mig-29.

You can laugh all you want, but there is more to it than mere specifications. @Bajirao overstates a bit ofcourse, however while the Mig-21s climbed up from behind Pir Panjal, the Sukhoi-30 were at higher altitude. Meaning F-16s were against topography to its radar. Russian radars have a bad...

Ok, now look at it from his side. Some reporter asked him the induction plans for forseeable future. If you were him, you wouldn't be boasting crap like "we plan new jets fir $50bil to reach 50 squadron by 2050!" 300 + 114 + 36 (+ 70 trainers) seems like a very casual unprepared reply... 450...

Nonetheless, unless anyone is to let us gift the jets for 5-7 years we can't afford a $15bil dollar deal. IAC-3 is practically cancelled due to that, and that was before Covid-19. Extrapolating the tech gap we've bridged in past 10 years, post 2025 AMCA/ORCA wouldn't be behind. But for next 2-3...

Ofcourse, you didn't need to say that. I know. 35 years is a long time to predict anything, but in next 5 years... no chance! You know.

Exactly my point... He's either making waaaaay conservative estimates, or we are downsizing to <40 squadrons. That many for "induction over 35 years" to replace all Mig-21/29, Mirage-2000 and Jaguars! o_O Not Rafale, "Rafale class"?.. Can't import for next 5 years after what will happen to our...

That can be said for your America's tech  too!.. There is a lot of room between "better than Rafale" & "junk", but you already know all that very well. Ok. This is getting offtopic & repeatative. Here's the thing... We'll have to keep importing subsystems to either augment our...

Yes, and order of initial 500 engines & their subsequent replacements is not "feeding something"?.. What's your logic here?

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

Irrelevant. Won't come to that. They competed to win those engine tenders, they're still pitching for EPE partership. They'll take whatever they can manage. MWF, AMCA, ORCA combined will mean 500 engines minimum, you think they'll pass such sales up... why exactly? Ok. Cool.

We don't need to do anything. Our imports, from everyone, will decrease in forseeable future. Rest I'm just gonna copy-paste the same thing again. We'll have enough F404/414 (plus spares) with or without MMRCA. We already kicked them out of it once, and have more or less done it again... Will...

Only junk in IAF is the 40 year old Mig-21 & older Jaguars. All the Russian tech does not become junk, just because you wish it so. No matter how much you love US fighters, we don't want IAF to become a zoo like Saudi. As we never used their legacy fighters we got no commonality in parts or...

    MMRCA 2.0: News & Discussions

I have no qualms against G2G piecemeal orders for Rafale or mothballed Mig-29 (atleast it's definitely a jet we built infrastructure for), instead of a massive deal for 108-114 uber-expensive imported jets. Both Tejas order & Su-30 upgrade will benifit from the freed up funds.

It is not about altitude. MAWS works best within distances of less than 3 km, decently at 5-7km. So a low slow helicopter will need it more. Theoretically at that range a dogfighting enemy aircraft is going to go for the inexorable cannon fire... but practically it gives the last minute warning...

To be fair, they only have 1 squadron of 24 Su-35 only, probably to steal tech & reverse engineer based on that. And another squadron of FOC Tejas before 2022 would be good, but no more than 150. It can fill in the roles of Mig-21 & Jaguar, but if any more it may become a handicap of capability...

Oh no not 50-60. Between 30 to 35. Upto 40 if the trainer (i remember 8) line is operational. There were a few news and tweets made, by HVT & HAL. You will find them somewhere in LCA Tejas thread. I don't think all of the jigs are different but at least some part of it are apparently separate...
