Amraam flies to twice the range. I'll take a missile that can shoot down an aircraft at 80km with low PK than a missile that can't even reach that range. What secret sauce does French has? They might make a missile thats 10% better but they price it 100% higher. And they can get away with it...

Only 500 because they cost a fortune. How do you explain them costing $1Billion?

Don't forget the 6600 crore for 490 MICA. Thats $2 million for a MRAAM.! AMRAAM D for comparison costs $1.8M and is a LRAAM.

Nobody but France paid for the development cost for rafale. The unit price paid by India, qatar is close to OEM price paid by France per unit of manufacturing, meaning they pay zilch towards the dev. cost. Even if France buys 250 rafale, they spent $25B on development, so each jet costs...

    IAF Mirage 2000

That EUR47 billion cost is for 180 jets procured (28 yet to be delivered) and not 286 planned. Besides the 286 planned was projected keeping in mind the attrition of M2000 in mind. However, due to the M2000 fleet holding just fine over the years with no major war losses or accidents, the future...

Why aren't Armée de l'Air Française's M2K being replaced by Rafale? Having spent a fortune on this project, it's weird only 180(136+44M) have been ordered. Including development costs, Rafale is the most expensive jet in the world.( unless more are ordered) Rafale Program- $67.2B for 180 jets...

Seems counterintuitive.. If they make a profit, it goes back to the government. Why would they charge the government more than its required, book a profit and then pay it back. But its actually in loss, thats whats astounding, they can't just siphon money off .

    IAF Mirage 2000

Where does the money go then? HAL primary job is integration, not core production.. Almost every subsystem is license manufactured meaning low number of grey pits where money could disappear. Unless it requires 5 times the manpower to do the same job as that by France, Russia, how can anyone...

    IAF Mirage 2000

How is manpower cost relevant while discussing cost overruns in India? Average salary in core engineering jobs is about 1/3 that of France, so even if 3xhours are required to do the same job as compared to France, cost should remain the same? What am i missing ....

STOP GOING OFF TOPIC.... I understand its hard to maintain the discourse within one aircraft discussion( as the thread name suggests) but atleast keep it within the realm of flying machines and not diplomatic debates..

That was sarcasm for your kind info.. Obvio US doesn't employ a direct physical kill switch.. I said it to highlight the stupidity of people who term it as a reason for not buying US jets..

My math is quite alright.. There's about 35 basis point difference between 1.15 and 1.5 You could get away with it by saying you had made a keyboard mistake, but you just pushed it.

    IAF Mirage 2000

How?!?!? Again stop bringing in SH18, we're talking about Rafale here.. Empty weight 10 tons.. 40% fuel - 1.9 tons ( total 4.7 tons) Without any 'combat load' the total is 12 tons.. And the thrust is 2x 7.5 tons= 15 tons. That is 15:12 or 1.25:1 not 1.5:1 STOP PUSHING WRONG INFO!!!!

    IAF Mirage 2000

?? You said it had a T/W of 1:1.5 with fuel and combat load... I'm not so learned so could you point it out... Bdw, why did you quote the Hornet vs SH comment in this..? I had uploaded the same photos in the earlier comment..
