I never believed the Chinese hype of hundreds of km range rockets but even if you cut the range by half, it is pretty impressive. Persistence in R&D is bearing fruits.

Wheeled SPH tender has been cancelled indefinitely. From what I gathered, it'll be merged with either the mounted gun requirment or ongoing the tracked SPG procurement. It was an asinine proposition from day one. Wheeled guns do not bring anything new to the table.

Around 150 M109. Most of them are A2 variants upgraded to A5. Fairly decent gun in its day, outdated today. PA's SH-1 acquisiton was a hoax as far as I can tell. Same goes for the Turkish Panter. I am having trouble finding reliable sources and so far I haven't found a single picture that can...

That is some kickass savings. 300 crores for upgunning 300 guns is peanuts. As usual OFB is late to the party. But as they say, "Der aaye durust aaye".

6×6 Arty tractor which can be lifted by CH-47 looks like a tall order. Light 4×4 akin to Pinzgauer would have made a lot more sense.

Hell yeah!!! If I remember correctly, FARP had a provision for increasing ULWHs to 645. If Baba Kalyani and Mandus group can pull it off, there can be other versions of the gun too. Let's hope he keeps his promise and delivers the guns at a substantially reduced prices.

Tata doesn't have one. Kalyani borrowed the mechanism from Elbit, Tata probably didn't have the luxury. For nuclear artillery, look up "Indian Defence Analysis : Artillery", Lok Sabha TV.

I have one but it's Ajai Shukla. So take it as you may. http://ajaishukla.blogspot.in/2016/12/indian-artillery-gun-shines-in-trials.html?m=1 Burst fire is 6 rounds not 3. Perfect for shoot and scoot.

@indiatester Dude, the procurement process of IA has nothing to do with "highest quality". Had that been the case, they wouldn't have cleared T-90s without ACs for deserts. It has to do with DALLARS.

@Adioz Either follow on orders or wheeled arty will equip the RAPID divisions. It is my understanding that armoured divisions are not stand alone but are a part of Strike Corps and thus are covered by 40th & 41st artillery divisions. Strike Corps are offensive but slow moving units so the...

@Adioz Even though the comment wasn't directed at me, please allow me to butt in. I don't think that reviving ATAGS based Bhim is financially or strategically feasible. According to my understanding, the requirement for self propelled arty is as follows. 6 arty brigades attached to 6 RAPID...

@Guest US tried that with CH-47. It didn't work. With ever modernizing air defence, that thing will be swatted like a fly. ---------------- Now that the K9 agreement is signed, it is about time Army brass get their heads out of their asses, cancel the wheeled arty tender and order 200 more of...

O yaar where the hell is this thread going? Let's keep the thread to actual artillery and not the mythical flying artillery. Flying arty concept has been done and was a failure.

@SilentKiller This is what you want. https://www.orbitalatk.com/defense-systems/armament-systems/pgk/ Turning "dumb" rounds into smart at a very affordable price. Even the initial price of $10000 each is a fraction of other alternatives.

No, the Dhanush is not a "stop-gap" arrangement but precisely what army wanted it to be. Now despite what you or I want, operational requirements are different than future plans. If only two regiments are confirmed then it's well and good. If further regiments are Mk2 then it's bloody excelent.
