Jaguar and Mig 27 are CAS aircraft ?? How did you come to that conclusion ? Jaguar is a deep penetration strike aircraft for ground attack roles and Mig-27 is ground attack/bomber aircraft. There's a difference between ground attack aircraft and purely CAS aircraft. Su-25 and A-10 fall in the...

No mate, that's not what I think. The main logistics that IAF caters to is none other than that of the IA. IA is the biggest arm of our defense forces with a strength that is 10 times more than IAF personnel strength. For an Army of that size, its usage of helicopters is dismally low. Look...

Kunal, whether IA will get CAS aircraft or not, only time will tell, but they sure as hell do need such capability, no doubt about that. But before, what really bugs me is that IAF has a large inventory of choppers of all types, whereas its the IA that needs them more. I think all IAF choppers...

Absolutely. Every paramilitary organization needs to have transport and lightly armed choppers, especially the CRPF. For the kind of enemies they are fighting, they certainly need a credible air support. And so does the police in big cities.

As long as there is no official word on this, this will all just be a speculation. Personally, I would love to see the Su-25 or the A-10 in IA. But till then, IA needs to induct gunships in big numbers. I think the IA can very well absorb around 200+ gunships.

^ Yeah, this one is a gem. I think its better than the Pucara, since it can be operated in unmanned mode too. In counter insurgency warfare, and other such missions they are perfect. But in armed combat, I think they still need an effective missile jammer, since the real threat in a battle...

^ Kunal, I like both these birds, but they can brought down easily even by hostile small arms fire, forget heavier anti-air guns. Just see the instances in which the Argentinian Pucaras were shot down by the British, they should have a better armor plating and should have good missile jammers...

This is a bare bones platform ! At least the IAF could have taken the weaponization of the AH-64J as a model for the Cheetahs. It should have had rocket pods at least.

This is a very good development for the IA's aviation wing. Hope they get more aircrafts of these type of platform, preferably a heavy lift one too in the future.

I think the IAF should transfer all its helicopters to the Army, or at least all the gunships and the troop transport ones. The USAF also operates helicopters in support roles only, not combat roles. All gunships are with the US Army and the Marine Corps.

I never said that India will definitely buy the F-35B for its navy.. its just being speculated by the Americans as future buy for the IN. Of course, if we get a naval version of PAK-FA, obviously nobody is gonna consider the F-35.

F-35B is a STOVL aircraft which can takeoff from a short ski deck as well as capable of performing vertical takeoff and landing, so it doesn't require catapult equipped ACs. That's why Japan and South Korea are looking at it as the future acquisition for their LHDs

The JSF or the F35 B can be a very good choice for the Indian Navy...... it will give a 5th gen aircraft capability to the navy.... which will give IN a big technological edge in Asia.....currently the the F35 B is only on offer to Japanese and South Koreans in Asia........

I agree.I personally think that all attack and transport helicopters in the IAF should be transferred to the IA, the IAF should concentrate only on fixed wing assets. This choppers can provide the lethal suppressive firepower required in ground assault ops as well as provide logistic support to...
