Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

What's worse is not that this is April fool, but the fact that dephens fanboys think ORCA/LCA Mk2 will come in any realisitc timelienes that can meet IAF's ailing squadron requirement. Instead of seeing the falling squadron as a national security problem & prioritising it as an emergency...

They tried, but failed. What they reached was a ammo dump near LoC (~15 km, within artillery distance so no bonus point for hitting it with fighter jets) by loitering munitions fired across LoC. There was no damage (bomb was inert), and there was no casaulties. Anyway, we are going to another...

In the early days of Kargil, human-wave attacks on peaks without artillery or air support costed us multiple lives. Pakistani artillery also costed us many lives as IA didn't have counter-battery radar to detect & reply to incoming Pakistani artillery barrages. Our tactics has always being a...

Not sure about Garuthama/Garuda, but SAAW has got orders back in 2019. We also have imported/license-made glide bombs like SPICE, Crystal Maze, HAMMER, etc. in unknown numbers for stop-gap. Russia also started production of kamikaze drones & glide bombs after war started & they took massive...

Easy to point fingers and cry. An airforce runs on sophisticated, expensive machinary. Not like Army not where you can hand over an awkward orange rifle, a tin bucket helmet and a handful of bullets and ask to show "josh" and run over a mountain. Or like Navy whose machinary is not...

Old gen or faulty, we won't know. We have seen in previous Ex Vayushakti the same thing (R-73 missing) 50% of the time. Anyway Banshee/Abhyas composition & size is like that of a Kamikaze/Loitering munition like Shahed or H-4 SOW which will be used by our enemies in the war. R-73 will likely...

Yeah that proximity fuse argument is total bullshit. MEAT (Banshee/Abhyas) is pretty big to trigger proximity fuse. The fuse straight up failed or the radio frequency of the proximity fuse only responds to metallic objects. Anyway its pretty ancient to modern standards.

Okay, I finally watched recording of Ex Vayushakti. I have also regularly watched previous Ex Vayushakti's (happens every 4 year IIRC), comparing - Bombing runs are absolute spot-on. Even with dumb bombs, every IAF jet dropped them with guaranteed kill. Previously, we used to miss 30-40% of the...

Modern Turbofan engines are one of the most complex pieces of engineering consisting of various parts, which in themselves are engineering perfection. So its extremely difficult. Even the world's biggest copycat China failed to copy & develop a modern jet engine for multiple decades. Finance...

Yeah agree, Chinese are unnaturally fast in decision making because of how their govt. works. LCA Mk2 -> Delayed TEBDF, AMCA -> Not even left design board Then what's the solution ? Something that balances indigenous development without damaging our AF capability.

Jibes and comedy aside, we really need good 4.5 gen fighters. I think ~6-8 squadrons of Rafale will be good stopgap measure till we mature LCA Mk2 & AMCA.

Precautionary landings are mainly due to technical issues. US aircraft I have heard have a high level of monitoring and danger detection which warns before a technical issue can cause an irreparable crash, hence we see so many "precautionary" landings. Mid-air collision is human error.
