I'm not proposing to buy more Su-30MKIs to replace MiG 21 , I'm saying as far as interceptors are concerned we can use what we already have , And we can replace the MiGs with Tejas for all other roles

Yeah,our pretty defensive doctrine But that's not the point,even the Americans and Russians don't make dedicated interceptors anymore. The job of interceptors can be carried out by Su-30MKIs

I don't see much to be gained by going Mach 2 The role of the interceptor has now been diffused into Air Superiority fighters,Tejas doesn't need to go Mach 2 to be an eligible replacement for MiG-21
