So 60-80% of the Soviet muslim soldiers deserted in the first year. And these were the people brought up under a mild version of Islam. I seriously don't understand what is so powerful in this 7th century barbaric ideology.

The muslims from J&K in the army are usually Shias from Kargil or other regions.
