This one judgement could potentially hamper every road and rail project in the coming years. Let's see how the centre works its way around this. https://theprint.in/judiciary/unconstitutional-sc-junks-centres-environmental-clearance-exemption-to-soil-extraction-for-infra/2012592/

That's genius really. Could prove to be a deathblow to AAP's free bijli model. Makes you wonder what other freebies can be made obsolete through well thought out incentives.

17 kms of 6+4 lane bypass completed in quick time (8 months before the deadline). This is why I'm an unapologetic BJP supporter. Not only is this the only central govt ever that takes up challenging mega projects, never before have remote and backward regions of this country withessed...

That's always going to be the case with infra built on the Himalayas. Every piece of road infrastructure built in the mountains will be vulnerable to erosion for a few years until equilibration happens. A similar thing happened to the Karakoram highway built by the Cheenis.

Seen Calcutta people glorify every decrepit crap that place has to offer ever since I can remember. Nothing new to see here.

I think the 300 rupees is for the dents they inevitably acquire enroute, from other taxis nonchalantly bumping into them to nudge them forward in traffic. is that still standard practice there? It's such a uniquely Kolkata phenomenon. Never witnessed something like it anywhere else.

For context, Kolkata didn't build a single km of Metro when Momota and Dinesh Trivedi were railway ministers. It took the BJP to come to power and actually get new metro lines opened in the city for the first time in 40 years.

Cong asks for credit for projects completed by BJP govts because the latter usually don't outright scrap development projects initiated by prev govts. Congress when in power doesn't build anything and stops as many ongoing projects as possible, just so the opposition can't reverse Uno them.

Good thread. Some of these are just cosmetic, but still very impressive. Demonstrates the amount of effort that's gone in silently for station redevelopment. And the "world class" railway station program has only just begun.

India needs to create a lot more large public spaces with infrastructure to handle our population pressure. Make places walkable wherever possible. It'll enhance liveability exponentially . South Korea is a good example of how that's done. From what I've seen, Kartavya path and the Ahmedabad...

Au contraire, I'm actually amazed about how good it looks despite the heavy usage. Much better than a lot of places with lesser footfall abroad. To me it's proof that a relevant amount of good public spaces will eventually condition the masses for better civic behaviour.

Harken back to all the negativity surrounding the Central Vista project. Where are the naysayers now? Why aren't they being mocked at every corner? Central Vista footfall has grown exponentially, even as the second phase is still in the works. Delhiites are lapping it up!

The government originally intended to make the chardham roads four lane though. Had to back down because the court denied adequate RoW. The SC even overruled a bench constituted by itself when it agreed with the govt recommended RoW. Also, cost escalation due to delays in projects is a real...
