Is this a speculation or is it official? There was a news regarding HAL designing Mach 2 fighter at around 15 mn cost? Does anybody have any update?

Exactly. If 5.5 ton class dhruv require an engine of some 1300 HP engine, double weight carrying requires almost double power.

A 1200 kwa engine is in development at HAL but that will not be powerful enough . I believe engine will be coproduced.

This will mainly be for troop transportation so no armaments probably will not be there unless in case of armed version. Range may be in the range of 700 to 800 KM. Ceiling may be in the range of 4500 to 5500 m. These are my guesses.
