Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Watch this.. Its the same old story. IA is comparing Arjun with T90 in terms of maintenance cost and spares. They want it to be as cheap as T90 with the numbers in 100. DRDO on other hand is asking for numbers to bring down the cost factor. There were some issues regarding firing...

Remove that mine plough and you could easily shed 2 tons approx of weight. But then how could they cry about being it too heavy for operational use. It seems that instead of Armoured division, they have planned to give it to Engineering corps. @Advaidhya Tiwari ... those are auxiliary fuel tanks.

One thing which I often learn in this forum is that, don't argue with someone who is idiot enough to see only his view point. Lets have a look at the ammos which are being developed for Arjun. 120mm HESH and 120mm APFSDS. Now APFSDS is a round which is best in business against a heavy armour...

... If I am talking horse shit, your post is nothing less then a mule shit I would say. Go and do some proper study and change your perspective about others. My very first comment was I never quoted you in the first place. Never asked you to jump up and down with your steaming...

Neither I am saying that IA had done the best thing by retaining the Rifled Gun Kiddo........... I have only presented one of the many reason which must have compelled the user to retain the rifled gun instead of going for a smooth bore one. Making a rifled gun is much more labour intensive job...

You tell me one ammo which rifled guns can't fire which only smooth bore guns can do. Mind you, Arjun also did fired LAHAT missile from the same rifled gun.

Now see where your prob lies. Do you think that APFSDS is the only round Arjun would be firing? Read this line slowly and try to understand what is the logic.

Well.................... You should have said this to this guy. Seems he is a novice in front of you knowledge. http://www.military-today.com/tanks/arjun_mk2.htm Moreover, seems like you skipped the primary class where it has been taught that rifled guns are more accurate over a distance then...

One main reason might be its accuracy at longer range in comparison to smooth bore gun.

I am not quite sure of how many tanks we do have in a Regiment. But since ours is based on UK system, then as per news 112 are confirmed as of now.

@Vijyes & @Krusty ............. Something for both of you to discuss on other thread. What is the difference between horsepower and torque? http://www.badasscars.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=117/category_id=13/mode=prod/prd117.htm BTW.... Don't forget to tag me along. :biggrin2:

Although not sure, but Merkava too has something like that size. Maybe @Shaitan or @Saumyasupraik or some other known member could point it out. I think it is there on the right of the cannon. The difference is there in the overall turret design. Else Merkava and Arjun, both are using the same...

Because unlike infantry, it has to paint a target as far as 5 to 8km max. So it has to be bigger then the hand held designators.

Apart from all these, what I feel compel IA to choose rifled gun over smooth bore is lack of required Tank simulator for firing exercise. Rifled guns are more accurate then smooth bore ones over a distance, but the downside of it is the lost of KE of the rounds it fires till that distance and...
