The best way to protect Indian North east is to invade Tibet. We are not going to achieve that with this paltry number of C-17's and Airborne troops. We should be looking at Multiple divisions of airborne troops and multiple squadrons of Heavy Transports.

China has one advantage over India.

They don't care how many die for their Revolution!

They have enough under the category of 'Manpower' and is catered for in their WWR.
Sir your friend always says the days of deng are over the ccp must have to answer a lot to mothers who have lost their only kids in a war.The days of korean war type are over for china .In short the PLA has no more unlimited manpower

We have highly trained mountain troops like the Ladakh scouts, SFF etc. but what we don't have is substantial airlift capacity, paltry number of artillery without which there's not much we can do other than scale mountain passes in Northwest Himalayas on foot, and that will be extremely difficult.

We will get murdered in Tibet. Best to stay within the mountains and harass them. We merely have to deny them entry into Tawang. It does not matter who wins or losses as long as we keep them on their side of the border. We can bloat it up using mass media. A Bloody nose is good enough.

India have enough Airborne assets to conduct air assault operations, IAF logistical support is very good in Arunachal also Ladak region, All major peaks are under Indian control, During 1987 it was proved to be successful..

In defense we are good, In Offense mainly as a counter attack IA have new battle plans..
2 mountain strike corp are mainly based on these plans, Where as Defending forces is different..

In modern warfare once you defeat them in Air then number of troops on the ground becomes irrelevant. This is what has happened in two Iraq wars, this is what has made Chinese rethink what they were planning before i.e using troops as cannon fodder. Getting Murdered by PLA in Tibet is just an over statement of a mind who thinks InA will be struggling at the Plateau in Isolation. InA chief would be an absent minded if he would do it i.e move in without air cover, and i am sure he is not.
.
My 2 cents.

NO, Have you read Gen.Sundarji's vision 2000? Do you know how much of that is a reality and how much is not. India's logistical footprint in North East is terrible, as we can see from all news report, we dont even have a airborne division. No we are not a airborne capable nation.
