Though the scenario here is a fictional one, but the weapons and tactics used by both side are very much real. This goes on to show, how investing in a varied missile arsenal in good numbers can deter even an superpower's formidable naval arsenal. And Yusuf, by the time carriers from the bases in the Pacific line up, there's a high chance that US would have lost atleast one CBG that's based in Japan, with the possibility of losing another if it is nearby the cost of China or Japan. That's a huge loss in itself, since the nearest CBG other than the ones based in Japan will be in Hawaii, which is at least 6 days sailing time away. By then, China has the capability to wipe out every American base in East Asia. Though the US still has many aces up its sleeves, and it is very much possible that its carriers will go unharmed even in case of Chinese attack against them, there's very much a possibility that China can overwhelm anti-missile with a barrage of hundreds of missiles, as well taking out their communications and satellites.

Forget the US here, just imagine what we will do to protect our navy against such a threat ? Hardly anything, I suppose.

Next, early-warning satellites detect the infrared bloom of 25 ballistic missiles launched from the Chinese mainland. Five detonate in orbit, shredding American communication and imaging satellites. While not a technical first—both the U.S. and China have knocked down satellites—it's the first outbreak of a hot war in space, and it partially blinds U.S. forces.

The 20 remaining missiles re-enter the atmosphere over Okinawa. Kadena's Patriot batteries fire missiles in response, but they are off-network and in disarray—10 missiles are struck by multiple interceptors, but an equal number slip through the defensive screen and hit *Kadena. Some of the GPS-guided warheads contain bomb*lets that crater the base's two runways.
US controls the GPS satellites!
