US Denies Transfer of Critical Technology and F-16 Fighter Production in India.Defenceworld.net

To a question on whether the US has agreed for transfer of sophisticated technology and production of F-16 jets under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Subhash Bhamre, Minister of State for Defense said “no”. Bhamre was answering the question in the parliament Tuesday.

The critical technologies in question are integrated systems for active electronically scanned array radar, electro-optical targeting pod, infrared search and track and radio frequency jammer. It may be recalled the US had refused to part with these technologies for the South Korean K-FX aircraft, a derivative of the F-16 made by Korean Aerospace Industries in association with Lockheed Martin. South Korea is building its own fighter plane closely modelled along the F-16 with a number of crucial inputs coming from Lockheed Martin.

These technologies form an important component of the F-16V fighter jet, the latest evolution of the world’s most successful war plane that has been offered to New Delhi. India has sought guarantee from US for technology transfer in case any US based company bids for fighter jet program under the ‘Make in India’ initiative last month.

It was certain by March this year that the production line would not be set up in India. Lockheed Martin started shifting production of its F-16 fighter jets to Greenville from its existing Fort Worth, Texas facility effectively burying its plans to move the production line to India.

Good news we can now dump this 200 Single engine fighter deal and put our weight behind Tejas ..we have enough reasons to dump this deal with F-16 what are we going to do without AESA technology transfer we are going to do another screw driver job for that we better do it for our own Tejas rather doing it for Amerikis ..if we want to please the amerikis for political purpose we can by Tomahawk Cruise missiles as our Nirbhay is totally non starter ...

    Lets give life to Tejas

Yes i am happy as well, hope our ACM gets knowledge that their is absolutely their is no difference between tejas and the gripen.

Even though tejas does not have FOC,it can still drop LGB's,fire BVR missiles.

Once equipped with IFR probe and AESA,it will be a very very very potent platform.

And a Kaveri engine with around 100kn thrust will make it suitable for Navy as well.

Gripen E is a non starter buddy ..The aircraft has yet to fly its still in prototype stage and not even completed taxi run test s ..By 2021 when we get first gripen we can easily build up more Tejas apart from the Existing order of 123 which had been placed ..If we drop both Gripen and F-16 then its time we rope in a private player either Tata or Mahindra and ask them to invest in Tejas this will help us ramp up the productions and also will set support system for future projects like AMCA or even FGFA ...The problem today what we face is because of capacity and we cannot expect HAL to fill those empty shoes of such vast requirements ...

If the govt is really serious about its Make in India there is nothing more better than backing Tejas and expanding the support infrastructure for future projects in india with the help of private players ...

Thats what i am saying, lets pray to goddess SARASWATI so that she gives our ACM,the knowledge and might to jerk this 200 jet deal off and put his money on Tejas.

At max 200 Tejas's will cost us 7-8 billion, that too with weapons package and infra and spare support and training and most important of all it will be tailor made for us.

As time progresses we will add sensor fusion and improved avionics to the Tejas to keep it airworthy and keep the bird flying for some 30-40 years.

This is news? We have known this from day one, anyone trying to sell the F-16 (or even Gripen) SE jet deal as a "win" for India's R&D capabilities is talking absolute cr@p.

India will get screwdriver tech and nothing else, considering this is what India has had for decades now it is time to start moving up the value chain and engaging in domestic R&D- supporting another nation's MIC cannot be tolerated anymore if India is serious about becoming a power in its own right.

Parrikar said last year the SE jet deal will ONLY be signed if "signifcant ToT" comes, I truly hope this standard is not diluted, if it isn't then this farce will collapse.

It was never for 200 jets bro but 90, 200 F-16 Blk.70 would cost >$20b off the shelf for a jet that is >60 years old!

Let's hope to god that the GoI wakes the f*ck up and stops trying to sell out the nation for a few cr@ppy planes.

No F-16 or F-18 will ever serve in IN or IAF. Its not a bloody transport but front line fighter and cannot be sourced from unreliable partners.

    A blessing in disguise, then.

Modi should pretend to be very upset and extract some concessions out of miserly paranoid Uncle Sam.

Lets hope some common sense and Conscience prevail in the minds of people who are making the decisions in IAF,MOD and PMO ..If someone ask me all i want is

PM to call for a meeting of RM,MOD,HAL,IAF and private players and give a message to HAL to get ready to share the piece of cake with private player for Tejas production and walk away with glory or else forget about future of Tejas and these private players will go with F-16 or Gripen ..This will be enough to set the ball rolling down ..Something has to be changed from HAL too we cannot keep protecting them when they are not pushing beyond the expected ..We need some healthy competition monopoly has always screwed this country ..HAL should more focus on development stage and share a part of the production needs rather taking it everything on its head and not meeting the deadline ..

And also IAF cannot keep crying saying they will accept aircrafts when its ready to fly into war direct from shop floor...

If U.S. cannot share critical technology, how they expect India to be a defence partner? Let U.S. fight it's own wars with China alone without support from India.

U.S. deserves partners like Pakistan who demand $$ even for entering the airspace. U.S. can never be a partner with India in future.

We are at loggerheads with China for Bhutan issue. Else we have no enmity with China. Once China accept Doval formula, there can be peace on border.

However the biggest loser will be U.S. No support to U.S. in Afghanistan or SCS or north Korea issue.

Well, US never counts India as a potential partner because India is stupid enough to get herself into a big war for only technology share. Americans know that, Indians know that and Chinese know that.

Who said they want to be a partner of India? Oh, media.

When did India support US in these areas.
