Sri Lanka is considering a nuclear pact with Pakistan after India voted against it at the UN this year, the Hindustan Times reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the Sri Lanka government is dragging its feet on a similar pact with India by not scheduling talks despite New Delhi's keenness to conclude the agreement soon.

India had offered Sri Lanka a comprehensive nuclear pact that would deal with all aspects of civil nuclear cooperation, including safety and training of professionals. One round of talks was held in October last year, and India also sent Sri Lanka a draft of the pact.

No further development has taken place since and New Delhi has been waiting for a Lankan response on dates for talks.

The report cites sources as saying that foreign secretary-level talks between Sri Lanka and Pakistan have identified civil nuclear technology as a major area of cooperation. Statements made by Lankan authorities show their intent to negotiate nuclear deals with both India and Pakistan, it adds.

India's second vote against Sri Lanka on the Tamil issue at the UN human rights council in March this year upset the country. Of the 25 countries that voted against Sri Lanka, only India and South Korea were from Asia. Thirteen members, including Pakistan and China, voted against the resolution and eight abstained. India had voted against Sri Lanka in 2012 as well.

I hope Sri Lanka does not face similar to what Pakistan had faced some 42 years back... Hope they are more clever than Pakistan...

pinstech and paec engineers has alot of experience in reverse engineering the candu reactors

Meanwhile PAEC is manufacturing a 1000mw(325x3) reactor in Islamabad
The reactor is underconstruction and is under IAEA inspection and PAEC only is responsible for the costruction.NESPAK is also helping them

Pakistan Nuclear Power Fuel Complex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pakistan Nuclear Power Fuel Complex (PNPFC), also known as Chemical Reprocessing Plant (CrP), is a nuclear energy and reprocessing industrial complex for the PWR-type reactors.[1] The NPFC-I is a dual purpose nuclear power plant, with a net capacity of 1000MWe, located 175 km south of Islamabad.[1] The reactor is designed for converting U3O8 to natural UF6, and enriched UF6 into UO2 powder, then converted depleted UF6 into depleted uranium metal and produced Zircon Ingot.[1] The PNPFC is ingeniously constructed by the PAEC under the IAEA terms as IAEA is funding this megaprojec

this is what happens when you usuall miss my earlier post

pakistan might not be able to make its own needle but we had successfully manufactured our own nuclear reactor 40 years before when indians didnt even knew what nuclear reactors are before french has givne you a dud warhead to explode in 1974.

pls provide link that pak has own nuclear reactor 40yrs back.in which post did u post so about pakistans nuclear own reactor.

i am sorry to use harsh words but its foolish to think that pak can produce every thing required to build a reactor and most importantly the core technology products.even the latest KANUPP-2 and Chashma Nuclear Power Complex are being built with chinese assistance.

leave all these,if sri lanka asks for soft loan on reactors can u afford??

Actually, it is SL which is bailing out a cash strapped Pakistan by having a nuclear deal.

what do they get out of it?are pak reactors safe?
The Pak reactors are of Chinese design; of the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute (SNERDI), based on Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant.

Chinese goods are said to be shoddy.

The advantage for SL would be that the SL Navy will not have to go for Indian fishermen, because the Indian fishermen will stay clear of SL, fearing nuclear radiation from a defective reactor!

sure

go and search about PARR II reactor.or the whole PARR series reactor

or tell me i will post the source..even the info is available on wiki

Kanup II deal is not signed with china.it was rather confused with the latest deal signed for 1100mw for karachi coastal nuclear plant.

The PARR-I Reactor was supplied by the United States government in 1965 under the Atoms for Peace program. The PINSTECH institute was designed by American architect Edward Durrell Stone, when noted Pakistani scientists, dr. Abdus Salam and dr. Ishrat Hussain Usmani traveled to United States of America in early 1960s. The first reactor was supplied by the American Machine and Foundry as its contractors, and the first reactor was built by the American nuclear engineer Peter Karter.

In the first stage, reactor building and ancillary facilities were completed with the reactor becoming critical on 21 December 1965. The second stage, consisting of various laboratories, workshop, library and auditorium, became operational in 1974. The facility was last upgraded by PAEC chairman and noted nuclear scientist, Mr. Munir Ahmad Khan in 1989.

The PARR-II Reactor had gone critical and began operating on January 21, 1974. The PARR-II Reactor is a tank-in-pool reactor with a rated power of 27-30 Kw. Same as the first reactor, the reactor is design to utilize the High Enrich Uranium (HEU) fuel. The HEU fuel utilize the ~90% 235U at a power level of 30 kW.[7] The demineralized light water is used as a coolant moderator and the reactor core is reflected by metallic Be.

Wiki

The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant, consists of one operating and three planned Nuclear Power Plants. KANUPP-1 a single unit CANDU-type PHWR reactor with a total gross capacity of 137MWe built in 1972. KANUPP-2, KANUPP-3 and KANUPP-4 will be built with assistance from China of 2,400 megawatts capacity

The PARR-II Reactor is an indigenously designed and constructed reactor owned by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission. The PARR-II Reactor's design is similar to Miniature neutron source reactor (MNSR) and SLOWPOKE reactor. The reactor was indigenously designed by the PAEC as the Atomic Energy Agency's chairman Mr. Munir Ahmad Khan and his team of engineers and scientists also led the construction of the reactor. The PARR-II Reactor had gone critical and began operating on January 21, 1974.[6] The PARR-II Reactor is a tank-in-pool reactor with a rated power of 27-30 Kw. Same as the first reactor, the reactor is design to utilize the High Enrich Uranium (HEU) fuel. The HEU fuel utilize the ~90% 235U at a power level of 30 kW.[7] The demineralized light water is used as a coolant moderator and the reactor core is reflected by metallic Be4.

:rofl::laugh::pound::frusty:
mr. farhan did you ever see what PARR means pakistan atomic REASERCH reactor with parr2 constructed in 1974 based on the then chinese models(which in turn are canadian copy) which is obviously out of date ,ancestor. with a rated power of 27-30KW

this reactor will definitely have a big value because its an antique

but now i believe your statement that Srilanka is interested in pakistans RESEARCH reactor as india is not yet interested to sell any nuclear reactors, may be china too don't want its name to be as nuclear proliferator

the reactor even if bought is of no use for civilian use

those are old reactors.
i was just confirming my point that we had built reactors 40 years before when indian didnt knew what reactors are and when one indian was asked about nuclear reactor he said "Bhai jaan maine khana kha lia".

he thought Nuclear reactor is some sort of food.

Sri lanka if deal signed will most probably gets the similar reactor which are being built in pakistan nuclear fuel complex each of 300-325mw capacity under IAEA

search about Pakistan nuclear fuel complex
