Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, "India and Pakistan are mirror images of each other and therefore we must have good ties. This is a necessity."
LAHORE: Increasingly under pressure in his country over the continuing drone attacks by US agencies in Pakistani areas, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made a strong plea over the weekend for speedily resuming peace ties with India.
"We must aim to dismantle visa requirement between the two countries," Sharif said choosing the unusual venue of the opening of a literary and cultural conference to voice the demand. The reason: he was told that The Times of India's correspondent was present at the function. Directly addressing TOI's representative for a large part of his speech, Nawaz Sharif said: "You must go back and convince your government to sit with us and resolve issues."
He added: "I understand that your country is going to elections so the anti-Pakistani bogey is being raised. But let me tell you in the run up to the last election we never raised an anti-India bogey."
"India and Pakistan are mirror images of each other and therefore we must have good ties. This is a necessity," he stressed.
His plea to an Indian journalist surprised the audience - most of them writers and men of letters - and many wondered why he was doing so at a meeting to discuss the future of Urdu.
A drone attack on Hungoo, a big city in the border province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has stepped up pressure on Nawaz Sharif. This is not the first US drone attack but is the first such strike in a 'settled' area. The attacks - targeted at the Taliban - have, however, incensed the entire nation. Imran Khan's opposition Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaaf party has been organising countrywide demonstrations and threatening to block NATO supply routes to Afganistan that pass through Pakistan. Other leaders have said that it is time the nation took a call whether they want dollars or have their sovereignty compromised.
Sharif said that Pakistan's priority under his regime would be to revive the economy and check terrorism. Not a day passes in Pakistan without terrorist attacks in some city or the other. "This is causing a lot of anxiety in the country and the US has replaced India as enemy number one. We now feel the need to build excellent relations with India," said a senior civil servant.
Analysts said that Sharif hailing from a business family is also looking for more exports to India and feels the need to normalise ties. But he has not been able to bite the bullet and grant MFN status to India.
Though Sharif wants visa requirements between two countries to be dismantled, presently the visa regime is very restrictive. Those over 65 are however allowed visa on arrival. This facility has recently been introduced but not much used.

Even those coming to India on diplomatic visa don't know how to behave themselves and set a bad example.
And here we have Mr. Sharif dreaming about visa free travel.

BTW, where's MFN Mr.Sharif?

Baldy is up to something nasty one more time ! When Sharifff talks something about peace or improving relationship with India, that means he is implecating something big against India.

I hope, RAW and NIA folks are watching what's actually cooking behind enemy lines.

Pakistan is already enjoying visa free travel to India, only problem is that it's a "no return back to home country visa " and as soon as they land India most of them are welcome with a bullet by Indian army and sooner or later all of them will meet the same fate.

'Removal of visa restrictions will lessen corridor need' - The Times of India

AMRITSAR: Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's statement on removal of visa restrictions between India and Pakistan may nudge Sikh organizations to withdraw the demand for a corridor between Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan and Dera Baba Nanak in India.

According to reports, Sharif on Saturday had advocated cordial ties and a visa-free travel between the two nations .He had stated, "I believe that visa restrictions between the two neighbouring states should be removed".

While welcoming the statement of Sharif, sixteenth generation descendant of Guru Nanak Dev, Baba Balbir Singh Bedi, who lives in Dera Baba Nanak, told TOI that if visa regime ends, then the demand for a corridor

wouldn't carry much weight. "Then Sikhs would be able to pay obeisance at gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore, gurdwara Nankana Sahib, and gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan and could return next day," he said. He added that still there would be an allurement due to the short distance between the two gurdwaras.

Founder of Sangat Langah Kartarpur BS Goraya said, "There wouldn't be any demand of corridor if visa restrictions are removed". He said if visa regime was done away with Sikhs could visit Pakistan and pay obeisance at several gurdwaras in a single visit while the corridor would be for only one gurdwara. "I am hopeful that Sharif would take up the issue with the new Indian government after the Lok Sabha elections and visa-free travel would be implemented," Goraya said.

Vice-president of Kartarpur Ravi Darshan Abilakhi Sanstha Jasbir Singh Jaffarwal said, "Yes, if there is no visa to visit Pakistan then there wouldn't be any demand for the corridor". However he said the short distance to gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib would still raise curiosity.

Visa free travel to Pakis! Whatever next!? As long as Pakis are renowned worldwide for terrorism, Sharif must be hallucinating to even think that any country will give Pakis Visa free travel. At the present moment, Pakis need anal probes and complete invasive body search at every airport and border crossing in the world.

It appears as if the trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan is at its peak. Sharif has smoked some good quality pot, shipped in directly from Afghanistan. :hookah:
