First P-15B hull set to be launched soon apparently. Livefist says "sources" indicate to be named Visakhapatnam-class (which makes sense to follow the city theme). Photo published on Livefist website shows very little difference from Kolkata which is a surprise given all the renderings that have been shown before. Lets see what the actual ship ends up looking like.

Has the Kolkata been fitted with Barak-8 yet? The weapons fit would be the same for Vizag class so there should be no delay. I hope the P-17a also follows same fit with reduced numbers.

All P15A and P15B will receive Barak-8 at later dates as system is not yet cleared for operational use. It has only recently passed live fire trials and the contracts to manufacture the launchers and missiles themselves still have ink drying on them. From current timeline, all P15A ships will be commissioned without the system onboard, while P15B ships have a good chance of being line fitted with the system before commissioning. Kolkata and sisters will have to be retrofitted during their scheduled maintenance dockings.

Here's Visakhapatnam, the first indigenously designed & built Project 15 Bravo destroyer. The hull will be launched Monday. The Indian Navy put out this brochure on the P15 Bravo line today, which provides the first official parameters of the vessel.

LIVEFIST: First Glimpse: Lead Ship Of India's Visakhapatnam-class Destroyers
4000 nautical miles(7400 kms) at 14 knots? Really?
Shivalik Class can do more than that.
Wiki and some other sources say Kolkata Class can do 15,000 kms at 18 knots.

Also a crew of 300? And they say they have "high level of automation"?
French Horizon Class and some other comparable era ships can do with less than a crew of 200!

76mm gun? Project 15B was supposed to have a 100mm!!

2 years interval? They started work on the 2nd ship in 2014 with modular construction , right? Just a year after the start of the construction of the first ship. Why do they need 2 years interval? We need more than 4 of these which can be attained only through mass production. Look at the Chinese!
Not to mention we need to retire the Rajput Class post 2020.

And finally...the name...seriouslly?? Bangalore Class sounded much better!

Overall pretty disappointed, was really lookin foreword to these ships.

Specs look a bit...underwhelming. No real improvement on Kolkata-class. And looking at the hull....no bulbous bow so..no hull mounted active sonar for ASW use...either that or HUMSA is the real Stealth king.

And yes...2 year intervals for modular construction is a bit too long.

BTW rohit B3 ... the spec mentions its "outfitted" for 50 officers + 250 sailors. That doesn't necessarily mean its crew will be 300. It means its designed to accommodate UPTO 300 if required. Hence if the vessel has to carry any visiting dignitaries, flag staff, MARCOS etc..there is available bunk space for them already rather than having to inconvenience the crew. Actually manning complement will be much less but will not be publicly released for security reasons.

The specs are wrong. Kolkata does 8000 nmm at 18 knt. They have 127 mm gun not 76 mm.

I still believe that navy is downplaying the specs. Some P-15A models showed 8 or 16 VLS cells each for Barak-1 on port and starboard. So this could be a case of "for but not with", because why would Navy design a ship which significantly heavier than it's predecessor (Delhi class) but carry less than half the number of SAMs.

Someone with insider sources should look into it.

Anyone with "insider sources" should NOT reveal such information on a forum like this...there is a good reason why the Navy would choose to hide / obfuscate information regarding the combat systems of a frontline weapon. Absolutely no reason for us to post such information here for all our enemies to see...

My sincerest apologies sir. I was just about to post India's nuclear secrets and army's mobilization plans on to the internet. You just saved me and I am grateful for that.

Phew. Just averted apocalypse. Put the launch codes slip back in the briefcase.
Be careful man. Enemies are watching this forum, they know we all are highly "connected" and apparently very very stupid but only slightly less than the men wearing uniform for telling us the "top secret" stuff.

With all due respect, some moderation in posting classified information is always good. As per the recent estimates, 90% of intelligence collection is open source based - mostly from blogs, forums, bulletin boards etc. It explains why many bloggers in China are going to jail, bulletin boards are being taken down etc. Ironically, the most intrusive intelligence collection happens from Khan-land not from the Garrison Dictatorship of Chicom.
