Pakistan issues more than 3 dozen CIA visas - Arab News

WASHINGTON: US and Pakistani officials say Pakistan has issued more than three dozen visas to CIA officers as part of confidence-building measures following the US raid that killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden and humiliated Pakistan.

US officials say the visas are viewed as a "positive sign," after encountering delays and resistance for weeks.

US officials also note that not all the visas requested have yet been granted.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

The visas are part of the plan to rebuild joint counterterrorism efforts. The officers in question would be part of a joint intelligence team to hunt Al-Qaeda.

The visas will also help replenish CIA staff in Pakistan, where some staffers were forced to leave because of a separate dispute earlier this year.

this is the pressure of the Pakistani economy groaning under decades of mismanagement speaking. Jus the threat of with holding US 1 Billion Dollars was enough for Rawalpindi to accept US terms.
