Pakistan: 10 injured as students lob hand grenade, exchange fire with guards

MANSEHRA: Close to a dozen people were injured on Thursday when groups of students and locals used hand grenades in a clash with security guards at Hazara University’s main campus in Mansehra.

Students travelling in a Suzuki van reportedly started a fight with guards when they were asked to be searched for security purposes at the main gate of the campus.

According to sources, at least 10 of the injured students and guards have been shifted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, of which four are in critical condition.

Sources at the university and police said security was tightened around the university earlier this morning after they received threats.

The fight is said to erupted when one of the students who arrived in the Suzuki van started misbehaving with the guard. Local shopkeepers came to the defence of the guard, while the situation aggravated further when other groups of students joined in.

Eyewitnesses revealed that both sides opened fire, after which a hand grenade was hurled by a student leaving at least a dozen injured.

Administration offices, laboratories and classrooms were ransacked and damaged. A teacher at the university confirmed that teachers and female students were safe but tensions continued among the groups.

The teacher, who requested anonymity, blamed the police on the grounds that they had been informed but only a dozen police personnel were sent, which did not prove to be sufficient to control the situation.

may be it was the fear of being caught that made the 'students' try to do dadagiri in a bid to pass through without being checked, but in general it can be said that in this part of the world, checking and frisking hurts people's craploaded egos much (recent example being of the Kerala airport incident).

hehe. soon they may have too, considering the jihadisation and communisation of kerala.

but don't underestimate the ego and brutality of these unionwaalas even if they don't have firearms (although the ones at the Kerala airport were probably shite-scared at what they had done and the prospect of armed jawans coming to them from their barracks for a sound beating, the reason why they tried to flee using fire-engines), probably the most recent being the incident at Maruti plant at Hisar sometime back, and an incident at BHEL Haridwar 35 years ago, where a Sikh guard was pounced upon by unionwaalas (because he had dared ask a union bigwig for his ID card) and beaten black-and-blue, his eyes smashed (while company authorities stood and watched; the CISF commandant too just ordered to get the armoury locked down), and then the exit blocked when the guard was being taken out for medical treatment. he died. and to date, no one of the union has been prosecuted.

When in India or anywhere there is a fight involving students the highest risk there is if the students start throwing rocks. Pakistan evidently has surpassed everyone where students start throwing grenades!!! What next? Now the teahcers will spank students with swords and parliament argument with AK-47?

Lets first talk about Pakistan where grenades launched.

When it happens here we can discuss it as well. This thread is not about scuffles/fights/road rage etc happening on streets which is perhaps not new around the world.

They might even try to create pocket-nukes to throw at each others.

The debates on Paki forum is hilarious and low level.

@Blackwater can post some of those Paki debates where they throw punches at each other and abuse as well.

albeit under the left-patronage, they are more of a norm here.

time for pakis to reinvent the (communal) attire of mock terrorists to instead show them as 'students'

One thing that comes to my mind on reading the news item is that -- There is no surprise that the students had Grenades with them and were not afraid to use it agains the guards. This seems to be the most normal incident that can happen in Pakistan more in the lines of a road accident in other countries.

Hazaras are one of the most persecuted people in Pakistan.

The community came under heavy attacks.

Lovely news. I hope Baki students graduate to artillery fire and RPGs within campus.

These are common incidences in Bakistan. Students carry grenades and teachers carry guns. They will die killing each-other. Bakistan is a perfect failed terrorist state and Bakis are proud of it.

absolutely ! !

well the reality is such that no one in Pakistan is batting an eyelid

they have gotten. used to it

it's not reported anywhere" in their media

So, . . . . . China also had better get used to it

as they are about to invest heavily in Pak
