    excerpts:
I don't think the Chinese are bankrolling this one as Pak has approached Europe too. Although France has refused and others will too (Project 75I is way more lucrative) Pak is probably shopping with the new prepaid debit card courtesy Saudi Arabia ... Lets see what happens.
@Rashna Post something related to defence for a change.

In our case there a lot of political/defence/settings middlemen are invovled who must be satisfied

while in pak case its just defence who are real worried about there defence equipments and not like indian who are hungey for kickbags

so pak can acquire * subamrine in one go without giving [email protected] about economic side

This yuan class will be SSKs ( Submarine hunter killers ) China has been stealing german technology in designing SSKs it has a slant sail hull, at the base of which an additional high-frequency sonar can be installed , improved acoustic reduction, newer sensors and a multi-spectrum, photonics mast probably has an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) unit that will enable it to operate completely underwater for several weeks.
Chinese are showering them with weapons with Saudi money , these SSks are trouble for Indian Navy .

Chinese will give some of their subs to PN. They have SA, China to finance their defence toys.

Anyway IN is expanding fast and will gain edge if not superiority on both PN and Chinese navy in IOR.

India needs atleast 7 carrier battle groups to patrol IOR, assuming two will be out for maintenance. Plus India is also planning to operate helicopter carriers.

Maybe these are for Saudi Arabia, after all Pak has a mercenary Army and its nukes are also available in their Military store. They are trying to create a military alliance of some sort which is unlikely to succeed because there is a strange mix of countries involved. According to some reports israel is supporting saudi in bombing yemen. Now Saudi should be supporting palestine and israel is a strange ally for them.

Why did Israel side with Saudi Arabia on Yemen?
Some Israeli politicians express deep satisfaction. Others seem elated about the Saudi attack on Yemen. Should hostility be our natural automatic reflex as Israelis to the Ansar Allah militia, even though we know nothing about it? Ansar Allah is a Shiite faction, which makes it rather obvious that it is yet another franchise of Iran. And if Iran is an enemy of Israel, we can safely assume that any group under its aegis is our enemy, too. We always side with the good guys, and in this case, the good guys are the Saudis.

There might be another angle to this. China may be using pakistan's port for parking their submarines. Their submarine had recently docked in Sri Lanka. China wants entry in to the Indian ocean and further up. This is more because of India's presence in the South China Sea and China's plan of developing a string of pearls which encircles India. Pakistan has no money to sign a 4-5 Billion dollar deal with China. They are dependent on doles from IMF and from Saudi Arabia to manage their economy. This signing may just be an undercover agreement for Chinese submarines to be docked in Pakistan. Pakistan is worried because India can successfully carry out a naval blockade of Karachi which will cripple Pakistan in event of a flare up with India. They believe in creating deterrents to prevent any Indian adventure because they are fully aware when the push comes to the shove they will lose.

Pakistan to Buy Eight Chinese Submarines

Pakistan has approved a plan to buy eight Chinese submarines, according to a senior Pakistani defense official, in what is expected to be one of China’s biggest-ever arms sales.

The deal is also expected to be among Pakistan’s biggest weapons purchases and is likely to intensify an emerging undersea contest in the Indian Ocean, where India and China are also expanding submarine operations.

Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan, additional secretary in Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence, revealed the plan at a meeting of parliament’s Standing Committee on Defence on Tuesday, according to an official record of the meeting.

The official record quoted him saying that “the National Security Committee (NSC) has approved, in principle the project to acquire eight Chinese submarines. Financial negotiations for the same are in advance stages.”

The National Security Committee is the top decision-making body for defense issues, with both civilian leadership—including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif—and the military chiefs sitting on this committee.

Pakistan Navy officials declined to comment. An official in the press office of China’s defense ministry referred questions on the submarine deal to local defense industry representatives but declined to say which ones were involved.

A senior Pakistani government official said that discussions were ongoing, but the financial and technical details of the deal won’t be publicly discussed until negotiations are wrapped up and it has actually been signed.

China and Pakistan have had close relations for decades based largely on their mutual suspicion of India, and China has long been one of Pakistan’s main arms suppliers.

Hua Chunying, a Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman, didn’t respond directly when asked about the submarine deal on Thursday but said: “China and Pakistan are traditional friends and neighbors.”

She said that China abided by its principles and international standards when selling arms.

She also said that Chinese President Xi Jinping was looking forward to paying a state visit to Pakistan “as soon as possible” and both sides were in close contact on that issue. She didn’t give a date for the visit.

Military experts and defense industry publications say the deal is most likely for Pakistan to buy China’s diesel-powered Yuan class attack submarines, which are also known as Type 039A or Type 041.

However, some earlier reports have suggested that Pakistan could purchase another Chinese diesel-powered attack submarine called the Qing class, or Type 032.

China’s global arms exports more than doubled between the five-year period ended in 2009 and the five-year period ended in 2014, according to an annual report on weapons transfers published last month by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

China was Pakistan’s biggest arms supplier between 2010 and 2014, accounting for 51% of Pakistani weapons imports. The U.S. was in second place with 30%, according to the report.

Possible but not probable . Why ? here's why
a)Pak just got cash from Saudis.
b)China would prefer to fight India till the last Pakistani.
c)Pak is fuming at INS Arihant and wants to achieve triad even if by conventional subs.As even after leasing MTCR/NPT does not allow SLBM to be stored.AFAIK.

Pak got 1 Billion USD from KSA and now they may be getting some more cash for their services in 'Operation Decisive Storm'. Its being said that China was choice no 3 for this shopping expedition. France and Russia did not oblige (for used subs). In any case let's wait n watch if it actually materializes because China has pulled out of projects in pakistan when pakistan was unable to get guarantors. They will not sell anything on credit to Pakistan. This deal is worth 4-5 Billion dollars, so it isn't something pakistan can just conjure up on a whim. Naturally Pakistan want's it because of India.

Pakistan is a cash strapped country.

Therefore, this deal apparently is too large for it to handle by itself.

Or China could be selling real old submarine that have lived their useful service life, slightly revamped and dusted.

Also, the contention that it could be a manner in which the Chinese are sneaking in their submarines, as a part of the 'String of Pearls' strategy cannot be overlooked.
