New Delhi: Putting a brake on politicians and others trying to enter the VIP protectee list of Black Cat commandos, the home ministry has decided not to pull the elite National Security Guards (NSG) into VIP security duties anymore.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday visited the NSG headquarters at Manesar in Gurgaon on Tuesday.

Sources said that Mr Singh indicated to the NSG brass that its list of VIP security protectees would not be increased. However, there was no clear decision on pruning the existing list of VIP protectees with the NSG.

Presently, the counter-terror force is guarding 15 VIP protectees.

NSG as the lead counter-terrorism force in India gives our countrymen a sense of security and pride. I salute the sacrifices made by them.

The NSG guards politicians like senior BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, DMK chief K. Karunanidhi among others.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the home minister also discussed with the NSG brass ways to enhance its skills in anti-terror and counter hijacking operations as well as reducing the response time for carrying out such operations.

NSG commandos gave demonstration of their skills and watching them in action has strengthened my belief in their abilities.

All this NSG and police protection requires to be reviewed.

Many are acquiring the various categories of protection for massaging their ego and that is about all.

Why should Vadra have a z+ security? Or Sonia Gandhi an SPG protection?

The threat is them is from LTTE. Now that it is a defunct organisation, the threat has reduced.

Now, if the politicians feel threatened about their personal security, then the party should cater for that since they are as it is flushed with funds.

Same for industrialist and film stars.

The exchequer cannot be burden with looking after those who have enough money to look after themselves,

Its a pity that SRG which is meant for CQB operations and other specialised operations are deployed as bodyguards.
Such duties should be hand over to commando units like ITBP or CISF or the new born "commando wings" of state forces.AFAIK most of the above mentioned list of politicians except Raman singh doesnt need such high level protection.
And SRG should be used solely for CT and anti hostage rescue ops just in line of SAG.Concerning their support role status ,why SRG is limited for support roles.
Most of the men in SAG comes from infantry or other army units.only few from PARA opt NSG .And the troopers from CRPF and BSF have more or equal level of exposure to counter insurgency operations as compared with army considering their operations in Naxal areas,NE, and J&K.Plus the basic training of crpf and BSF and ITBP is also somewhat same to those of army recruits.
SO if given proper training at NSG faciliy they could perform as efficient as SAG.
