Nirbhay test might have failed once again or it may test tommorrow i.e. 1st June. Otherwise news will be flashing in.

The Cyclone in Bangladesh has caused a Lot of heavy rains and Strong winds on the East coast

That is the reason for this postponement

Are these all weather weapon system or influenced by haivy rains and strong winds as you said ?

due to concurrent failures of missile DRDO has kept the the test schedule very secretive and low profile :shock::shock::shock::shock:

BHUBANESWAR: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has deferred the fifth test of homegrown subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay which was planned to be conducted on Wednesday.
Though DRDO is tightlipped about the reasons behind the postponement, sources said the test was called off due to technical reasons.

‘’A technical snag surfaced during checking of missile sub-systems which led to the postponement. As already three tests have been failed, we cannot afford to take any risk this time. Scientists are working to fix it,’’ said a Defence official associated with the mission.
On May 24, ‘The Express’ had carried a report on how the weapon system is being pushed for tests despite faults in the system drawing criticism from different quarters.

The sources, however, informed that the test would resume in a month once the fault is rectified. The two-stage missile has a length of six metres, diameter of 0.52 m, wing span 2.7 m and a launch weight of about 1,500 kgs. It can carry warhead up to 200 kgs.
While Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) has designed the missile, its solid rocket motor booster has been developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), which has developed Agni series of missiles.

Having a strike range of around 1,000 km, Nirbhay is the country’s first indigenously developed subsonic cruise missile project. Compared with Tomahawk system of the US, the missile can challenge the weapons of its class.


Flying at tree-top level, it can deceive enemy radars making it difficult to be detected. Unlike other ballistic missiles, this cruise missile has wings and distinct tail fins. After reaching near the target area, it can hover around hitting its target from any direction.
Though the missile has many unique features as it blasts off like a rocket and unlike a missile, it turns into an aerial vehicle akin to an aircraft, DRDO is yet to achieve ‘copy book’ success during developmental trials.

Four tests of the missile have been conducted so far since its first trial in 2013. While the weapon had covered full strike range during second trial in 2014, it failed miserably in three other tests.

All weather system but as Nirbhaya is in prototype phase,maybe that's why DRDO is playing it safe

Not really. Any kind of development test and trial would only be conducted under perfect weather condition. Its not about how the system works in inclement weather, but how the subsystem works during the test time. So for sake of observation all these tests are carried in clear weather condition.

Looks like there was no plan for Nirbhay test it was prithvi which got tested today

Prithvi-II missile successfully test-fired

BALASORE: India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile from a test range in Odisha as part of a user trial by the Army.

The trial of the surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, was carried out from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here at around 9.50 am, official sources said.

The trial of the sophisticated missile was successful and the mission objectives were met, they said.

The Prithvi-II missile is capable of carrying 500 kg to 1,000 kg of warheads and is thrusted by liquid propulsion twin engines. It uses advanced inertial guidance system with manoeuvring trajectory to hit its target with precision and accuracy.

The state-of-the-art missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the entire launch activities were carried out by the specially formed strategic force command (SFC) and monitored by the scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of training exercise, a DRDO scientist said

Did this conclusion led to cancelling the test again that was reported in 2nd June?

But that was due to diagonistics test where it failed. Is it for sure that it was the wing again that came under question and finally enquiring about the material and subsequently finding the fault ?
They are cancelling the tests repeatedly because truth is they have no real idea on what is wrong with missile. People working on engine says everything is fine, people working on seeker says its okay, software and electronics are saying their system is working fine. No one is taking any responsibility. They tried to pin this on final assembly guys saying they did a faulty job. Now they are blaming the supplier.

This means India is yet to learn the technology behind LV recycling which US has been testing past 6 years.

They need to do some serious debugging. As per reports, With many of their own colleagues expressing reservations as per earlier reports, I too think this could be some the blame shifting tactics on play here.

This means India is yet to learn the technology behind LV recycling which US has been testing past 6 years.
ISRO in recent interview mentioned that they will try to incorporate LV re-usability(like boosters etc) later in future. Here they might be talking about material recycling. Me no metallurgical/mechanical engineer so do not know if missiles frames who undergo lot of stress, their parts can be salvaged and recycled. You will be a better person to throw light on the same.

No, it will depends on the demand. If it is required to be operational under certain extent of bad weathers, such as rain, snow, wind, then you have to carry some tests under such kind of weather conditions. That is why generally, any new missile can only be declared a success after 10-15 tests. But for the beginning, the whole system must pass the test in ideal condition first.
