India has world's largest thorium reserves. Research for use of thorium as civil power generation source is at an advance stage with results due past 2020 or so.. But military use of thorium is not viable as of now. However this can help us to divert our uranium solely to military use.

Who said India is not rich in Uranium reserves?

It is because of the so called green loving morons who are not interested in India becoming self-reliant are doing this. We have a huge Uranium deposit in Meghalaya..... These idiotic morons who say that they are saving the forests and the local tribes are backed by the NSG group and they do not want India to extract from the Uranium deposits as they will loose the money they are getting for selling their Uranium to India......

If above is true , we have almost 1/3 of thorium reserve in world... We need to make use of this..

On the submarine front, it would be:
3 Arihant class with 4xK-4 or 12xK-15 or a mix of both.
3 larger class with 8-12 K-4/K-5 each
8 SSGN

As for ACs, it would be 3 Carriers. One each for Western, Eastern & Southern command.

5 would be optimal number probably 45000 tons class-3 and 65000 tons class-2
one 65k ton class to eastern and western commands.. one 45k ton class to east south n western commands.. But yeah maintaining CBG's for them would be difficult.

8 grams of thorium would be enough to run a car for 100 years without refueling it.
every reactor was supposed to run on thorium at first but then it changed to uranium.

every reactor was supposed to run on thorium at first but then it changed to uranium.

It requires time to make the reactor critical and this technology is yet to be proven in safety.

One more good thing about thorium fuel is that fast breeder reactors will generate its own fuel once they achieve critical stage.
