@tharun

Not really mate. Telescopic sight and barrel length are a dead give away. Look up SVK too.

Look at the photo there is another rifle in the background.
If you know how to use Google,then you will get all the details.

Director General of Infantry , Lt Gen YK Joshi firing the new 7.62mm*51mm assault rifle during trials . According to sources , the rifle has met all the expectations . Joshi sir was surprised with its accuracy . He mentioned that the gun is par with global guns in term of technology . Any global guns of this capability would cost 1lakh per piece but here it would cost 50,000 only . The 4kg rifle has a range of 500 meters and will soon be offered to Infantry school in Mhow . — with Fahad Muslimveetil.

Whatever happened to the MCIWS rifle? Wasn't it supposed to replace the INSAS?

Short review, But one of the best on Indian small arm by an Indian out there, these are prototypes, First 20, New butt-stock is FAB originated, It shows the rifle`s adaptability with various butt-stocks, I prefer metal ..
Butt stock is similar as in Galil ACE and Flash suppressor is same as in INSAS 5.56. Overall, it looks quite a decent product given the OFB reputation in producing sub-standard stuffs. However, the magazine seems to be quite old school with AK/INSAS type mag release lever. Even the guy is the video took much effort to put it in its place. Also, the fire selector switch and firing mechanism is same as in INSAS.
I think Galil ACE (under Make in India) would be a better choice rather than opting this motley mixture.

Galil and other failed in trails in India before, For a service rifle it does not matter how it looks and feels to one but should work where it must ..

Give a read to the thread ..

================

I had a chat with some people i know, The officer who fired the rifle also talked a lot of other details, besides most men are accustomed to fires 5.56mm and 7.62x39mm and not used to with 7.62x51mm anymore, Anyone from such a back ground will feel more recoil and in close firing range the sound will be higher ..

Anyways a lot of irreverent words are cooked up ..

In response, in a letter to NDTV, Dr U Mukherjee, the spokesperson of the gun manufacturer, said that a top Army General fired the rifle during trials and it delivered like a dream.
Our Rifle Works Flawlessly, Thanks: Government Manufacturer Takes On Army

=================

Ghatak is 7.62x39mm, This rifle has no names yet ..

Is this the same rifle which was loudly rejected by the Army a few weeks back, calling it too loud and high muzzle flash?

Dump that guy who rejected this rifle in favor of imports into a dumpsters.

Omighosh! this video of OFB Ghaatak is owesome. I have predicted cardiac arrest for some person a few page back. This video will make them BP high. Rest assured.

OFB is the white elephant of our country which after 20 yrs of giving this country INSAS today has again fooled us all by presenting a rechambered INSAS. I will post the video of the weapons trial and you will see how much recoil it is throwing on its user. Mind you the Army heavily uses Aks in jnk.

OFB should be dissolved and heads should roll for sheer incompetence. @Heavenshaker could have not summed it up better in his posts.

I see that the moment a desi product isvrejected all lot of us have a tendency to jump the gun snd bleed out CORRUPTION HAIN JI not realising the futuristic requirements. Give 6 months to a any desi company they will provide you a product 100 times better then the crap OFB given. 20 years of such extensive usage of a particular family of AR and data associated with you should have motivated you to make the best.

Just start a Darra style gun market of our own maybe,does legalization have affect to the indigenous quality of weapons? The more firearms license we have the more market we will get,the better the industry.

Keep in mind, this weapon will be mid term solution until MICWS or something same replace it ..
This is a new information for me. I was thinking that this OFB rifle will replace all the INSAS in the infantry units. MCIWS is far better in design (with its machined parts, pistol grip, & ambidextrous features) and in my opinion this platform can be further developed into DMR with longer barrel length, bi-pods, & sights. What is the status of MCIWS trials? Can you share some information regarding that.?

This new OFB 7.62×51 rifle will be a class of its own because it has all the features to be one. It has a retractable yet foldable ultra modern butstock which would be suitable and comfortable in the hands of Indian soldiers (e.g. for tall north westerners as well as shorter north easterners). It has a 18 inches barrel length and weighs 4 kg. It's recoil will be less then other comparable rifles of its class as DRDO is providing good muzzle brake. Its cocking mechanism is derived from INSAS 1b and it has both single shots and automatic firing mechanism. Though at present the rifle uses SLR magazine as being at protyping stage, it can change to a ultra modern one as it develops in near future. Altogether this rifle will be far far superior than any other comparable foreign rifles or make in India foreign rifles of its class in terms of efficiency, practicability/usability, reliability and cost.

Army is still going to reject on flimsy grounds. That is the way Indian Army acquisition system works. They reject in favour of import.

If not the muzzle brake, may be recoil, if not recoil something else. They know that they can get emotional and make the tax payers pay for anything they want.

IMHO this time Army won't have much chance of rejecting any of the indigenously manufecture and produce rifles or carbine since OFB/DRDO/ARDE has all the rifles/carbine of most of the calibers it demands. Their habit of shifting the goalpost won't work this time because of the same reason cited above and moreover GOI/MOD is also awared of Indian army design. That is why MOD challenged OFB officials to develop this new 7.62×51 NATO chambered rifle within a short period of time. OFB accepted the challenge and produce this class of a rifle. Besides insas excalibur has also successfully passed its trial while other fancy foreign rifles failed miserably at indian condition. JVPC has also successful trial.

Bro,all these mags are made for rifles which accepts STANAG type mags which is hold in place via button-type magazine catch.Not compatible with OFB 7.62 NATO rifle without special adapters at all.

One would have to modify Magazine well+Magazine catch (and internal of receiver too) to make OFB 7.62 accept these mags.

Israel_Weapon_Industries_IWI_ACE_52_7.62x51mm_NATO_Battle_Rifle_2.jpg

The Israelis are 5 years ahead of us, the above came out in 2012 while the OFB in 2017.

Looks exactly the same as one made by OFB.

Army already has enough guns. It is just media hype that is creating unnecessary sense of urgency.

A 7.62x51 calibre gun is not supposed to be standard assault rifles. Infantry will lose the aim due to high recoil. There is a reason why Nato uses 5.56. It is better to make a 7.62x39 with aluminium bullet to reduce weight while at the same time increase penetration.
