National pilgrim centre status sought - The New Indian Express

SABARIMALA: The Travancore Devaswom Employees Confederation has sought immediate steps to declare Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple as a national pilgrim centre.

Addressing a news conference at Sannidhanam on Tuesday, confederation president R Shaji Sarma and general secretary Anayara Chandran said that the State Government should exert pressure the Central Government to accord national pilgrim centre status to Sabaraimala temple. If the five Union Ministers, representing the State, will act together for the purpose, the declaration by the Centre will be made easier, Shaji Sarma said.

Moreover, crores of funds from the Union Tourism Department will be received for the development of the Sabarimala shrine, he said.

They probably consider themselves to be the world's authority on Sanathana Dharma, since Adi Shankara was born there.
