At the end of that mission, your squad captain orders you to get hold of Javelin ATGM lying on the ground and takeout three incoming tanks coming from the bridge. After locked on and fired, javelin releases, then goes straight upwards a long way, positions itself right on top of tank, then comes down in a str. way to destroy the tank much like the path of ICBM. There are later other day missions too of Javelin. Where as NAG, after fired from NAMICA, flies like a normal missile and blasts right on top of tank, which is its weak position.

@no smoking, what I meant by 'much like the path of ICBM' was that Javeline went up and then came down like ICBM, unlike NAG.

Kolkata, Jun 23 (PTI) DRDO today said the Army may induct the anti-tank missile Nag in its first phase of procurement with a "slightly-reduced" range, as it would work on meeting the targeted range of 4-km of the already long-delayed missile system. Nag, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, is a third generation "fire-and-forget" guided missile with capability of detecting and hitting the targets with a very low thermal contrast. The maximum range of the missile is 4 km which, however, it fails to meet during peak summer temperatures. "We have requested the defence minister and he told us to talk to the Army that as the first phase they may accept it with a slightly reduced range and that too only in the middle of the day (11 AM to 3 PM). In the second phase we will try and improve upon the target," Director General, DRDO, S Christopher told reporters here. "If you leave the tank in the sun for hours together in the summer, there is hardly any difference of temperature between the tanks body and outside temperature. That is the time when we are not able to achieve the targeted 4-km range. We have achieved 3.2 km," he said. However, after 4 PM, the missile is able to identify the target up to 4 km, he added. The missile has been under development as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP) initiated in early 1980s. Nag is the last of the five missile systems developed by the DRDO under IGMDP.

What you say is perfectly alright!!!actually what they are facing is practical/technical difficulties, hope local boys will solve it fast.
Here Look at this, although this is from the cold area, but it will be same type of thermal image that the NAG sensor will see.
Now in desert area, where sun is shining at its peak, all things will worm at the same rate, therefore it will be difficult for the sensor to distinguish the tank from the background worm sand. This it will give bad reading and the sensor will unable to find the target.
This problem can be solved if the DRDO ask the local makers like http://www.tonboimaging.com/ who make the thermal imaging camera to solve this problem.

Missing the point!!!Interestingly, Spike even failed to lock in same conditions and Army is inducting them in mass ..
Javellin too had same issues, But yes its Indian NAG which is Joke of the day by an Indian.
What spike and javelin does is not my concern, as they are not of Indian make.
From my point is view...
Indian defence industrial complex cannot succeed with this approach.
Can these problems be solved by integrated design bureau planned by IA?Their are plenty of things that make no logic ..
1. The heat of the tank and the surrounding itself is same then how a thermal guided system can work, Its no short of miracle that it can lock, How come this has become a requirement on first place for such a system..
2. DRDO makes its statement on its own annual reports and only to MOD and user from which latter is not publish on open source, Media reputation is well known ..
3. Its has to be noted that other system failed which failed more miserably in same criteria getting inducted with huge PR, First Spike failed in Thar and Javellin saga was continued which too failed and then Army started inducting Spikes without further trails and buying blindfolded ..
You fail to see that its the Army gets in trouble with a inferior system which is being imported and won`t replenish in the amount when used in mass, Which will lead to causality just like in Kargil, All these because some greedy corrupt import lobby.
KOLKATA: The DRDO is working on a slightly reduced range of Nag, the indigenously-built third generation anti-tank guided missile, Director General S. Christopher said here on Thursday.
Laying the foundation stone of the Jagadish Chandra Bose Centre for Advanced Technology (JCBCAT) at the Jadavpur University here, Christopher said the country's premier Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was focusing on exporting some of its products.
"The missile identifies the target (tank) through infra red seeking. So if the environment is cool and even if the differential temperature is just two degree, it can identify the target," he told reporters here.
"But if the tank is left for hours in summer (sun), that is what we did during the recent trial, the temperature difference between the tank and the environment is negligible and that is the time we cannot meet the targeted four km range," he said.
While the missile had a successful night trial earlier in the year, Christopher said the DRDO was working on a slightly reduced range of "around 3.2 km from the targeted four km".
"So we have requested the defence minister that as a first phase the missile's range be slightly reduced, that too only when used in the middle of the day i.e., between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. So in phase one, we will work on a slightly reduced range and in the next phase we will improve the product so as to meet all the targets," he said.
Developed under the integrated guided missile development programme, the fire-and-forget Nag, in January this year successfully hit the target four km away during a night trial in the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.
Asserting that despite delays its products continue to be in demand, Christopher said the DRDO was focussing on exports.
"We have given a set of our products to the defence minister for exports, particularly to our neighbouring countries. The exports are more a tactical move than from the revenue point of view."
"As regards delays in delivering, it takes time to develop a product. Even in the US it took not less than 15 years to develop an airborne early warning system. The time taken to develop the products does not take away their relevance. Otherwise the military would not have placed orders surpassing Rs 2.17 lakh crore for DRDO products," he said.
A joint venture between the DRDO and the Jadavpur University, the JCBCAT will primarily undertake research in areas of secure systems and cognitive technologies, directed energy, unmanned and robotics and other futuristic technologies.
With a fund of around Rs 100 crore, the JCBCAT is expected to be operational in the next two years.
